inletting for winchester mod 70

Re: inletting for winchester mod 70

Im not totally sure, but just keep in mind the the Win. 70 action is slightly bigger and has a flat bottom and sides whereas the Rem. 700 is basicly a cylinder, and slightly smaller.

Depending on the price, probally be better to just buy a pre-inletted McM A5 stock.

It "can" be done. Just mask it off and fill the inlet up with filler resin again and re-inlet. Not sure if it's worth the trouble. Most people would just sell the stock and buy another in the correct inlet.

As mentioned above. Just leave a couple points for reference to get the action sitting in the right location. Open the rest up, and bed it. I've done a coule this way. Took one from a Howa and fit it to a Ruger, and just finished one going from a long Winchester to a short Howa. Makes it easier of you have some inletting pins to use to setup the holes for the action screws if they end up going to a plcation where there is just air to begin with.

Re: inletting for winchester mod 70

Rhys got it right. But you can improve by using carbon fiber/graphite/boron cloth where you know you're not likely to remove material when in-letting for the M70. Even if you do you can still do it; it'll just be harder on you and tools. Makes a real strong and stiff stock and super platform to be off from. I used to gouge out barrel channels in wood stocks only to layer them up with graphite/epoxy. No more traveling for that for-end!
