I’m going to build a 10/22. Primary purpose will be for the family to use easily and use at night. It must have m-lock for WML(possibly laser) and arca(preferably built in), folding butt stock and adjustable LOP. Barrel need to be integrally suppressed, unless I can be talked out of that for some reason. I want to keep it as light and short as possible. Would like the whole rifle to be as light as possible(thermals are heavy, I want my kids and wife to be able to easily hold if needed, but arca for tripod when we can). I need a really nice trigger, and would prefer the receiver to have built in pic rail as long as possible. Optic will be a 384 thermal, probably the Iray Bolt TL25SE for ease of use. I also want to attach a back up red dot for day use. I would like to have atleast a .75-1 moa accuracy at 50 yards.

Right now I’m leaning toward the following
- gem tech mist( can’t find data on accuracy)
- receiver ? My biggest unknown, who do i use
- Kidd single stage trigger about 1.5-2lb
- Grey Birch LA chassis, 10”
- bolt, etc will just get with receiever

Has anyone built anything similar?
Any opinions on my components?
Suggestions of the best receiver for this?
Any data on the accuracy of the gem tech?

I am aware that accuracy can largely depend on the ammo. I have lots of different brands to try, mostly I’ve found that SK long range match and Lapua center X work really good in our other regular 10/22s and my RPR.

Did you know Grey Birch offers a 10/22 barred action that will be more accurate than most and there bolt is very nice
So in your opinion you would run the 12.5 carbon with a traditional suppressor then? I would have to stamp it as SBR which is one thing I wanted to avoid by just having the integral suppressed barrel. I have no doubt it’s a very nice barreled action though. It’s something I would consider.

Id definitely suggest getting a Kidd receiver. As for the accuracy of the Gemtech Mist, I don’t have any firsthand experience but I did consider getting one for my 10/22 and during the research process determined (by other people experience) that it would not provide the accuracy I was hoping to keep.

Here is a picture of my 11/22 with a gemtech mist 22
And next to it is a tikka in a gray birch chassis the suppressor is a dead air mask
I’m not sure what your ultimate goal is, but there was only a few inches difference between the two
Grey Birch uses threaded barrels into the receiver and their diameter is way thicker than most other 22 barrels

Ultimate goal is a very short and light suppressed 10/22. I want decent accuracy. Will be used by the family for night pests and plinking. I’m trying to keep it short and light as possible because thermals are heavy and I want them to be able to handle it easily. Would prefer to only have a single stamp also.

How is the accuracy with the gem tech mist?

Does it need to be short for storing it in a small space or because the night pests are in the horse feed in the barn and it's kinda tight in the feed room(idk if that's your problem but it's one of mine)?

If it's about storage then a folding chassis like a gray birch could do a lot for you with a 16" barrel so you don't need an sbr stamp, if it's use in tight spots then you might be better served with a regular can on a buckmark target or you could always go for a charger in a folding braced chassis with a brace like the Enoch or Odin.

Don't let me talk you out of an integrally suppressed barrel on a side folding chassis though cause that would be a fun 22. My FIL has an integrally suppressed 10/22 with an ATN thor and we love shooting ice cubes in the middle of the night.

Right now I am getting a little bit better accuracy than a factory barrel but I have other 10/22 that shoot much better

I think it is tac sol that makes a short barrel (12”?) with a permanently attached sleeve that makes the total length 16 so no sbr requirements, and your can when threaded to the end of the barrel is flush or nearly so with the barrel extension. That might be what you would be looking for

I use one of Clint Beyer's shrouded 10/22 barrels. Stupid light, a wee bit over 17" with the suppressor attached, no stamp required, mine shoots under an inch at 50 with CCI Quiets. I use a Volquartsen Firefly bolt to shoot the Quiets and reliably cycle. Its primary purpose is my critter getter when sitting in the deer blind.

I checked out that tacsol. That’s a cool concept, that seems to check off a lot of boxes. I just want to know that atleast someone has one that will shoot.

never heard of the Clint Beyers either. They have the same type of shrouded barrel setup. I wonder how that 1:9 twist with 60 grains does?

Send me a PM with what ya got.

I have a Gemtech Oasis 10/22 that is great fun. Probably 15 - 20 years old, the precursor to the Mist. I didn't know Gemtech was back in business. Last I knew, Doc Dater sold it to S&W or someone. Will shoot MOA with Eley standard velocity ammo. A little better with Tennex that I have left over from my AF days. I have a Volquartsen bolt and trigger and put an Aimpoint Micro T1 on it for fun. Even with just the red dot, it will shoot minute of rattler head. :)
If you are in the Phoenix area, you can check it out.
Pretty bad when the accessories on a .22lr cost more than the rifle!

Cool. Yea after thinking about those shrouded barrels I don’t think I’m going to go that route. Knowing my luck somehow the suppressor would get locked up on it under that shroud and I’d be screwed lol. Had some bad experiences before with that.

I think I’m leaning back toward the gem tech barrel for simplicity and find what ammo will shoot with it. For now I’ll use the the action and bolt I already have and upgrade if needed. Still really digging that grey birch chassis though.
