Hi Guys, I am thinking about purchasing a cnvd-t thermal clip-on. Can you fellas please give me the pros and cons on this particular thermal clip-on. Any help with information on this subject would be greatly appreciated?
The CNVD-T is a combat-proven optic and has been part of the SOPMOD Block 2 program for a couple years. It's got a very user-friendly interface and can be operated easily with gloves. It can also be used as either a clip-on or stand-alone thermal optic as mentioned above. The one real drawback is that it is a short-range clip-on (compared to the T2 and T3). We have really only only been able to effectively use them up to 4x. After that, the resolution really starts to drop off. But, if you are only looking for something that will be used with a red dot or low magnification optic, then the CNVD-T is perfect.
Keep in mind that the image is 640x480 interpolated. This means that you will lose some significant resolution if you bump it up with the internal digital zoom. E-zoom will degrade your resolution regardless of the unit you are using. This is because it is zooming in on the image you are being shown and not magnifying at the lens. So, without using E-zoom, you are essentially getting 640x480 resolution in the ocular lens. But, zooming at all will cut that a lot. This isn't really a factor unless you are using it as stand-alone optic, though.
If you are looking to use it with more magnification, I would suggest the CNVD-T3. Give us a call for a quote on either unit.
