I ordered a boyds tacticool stock for my Savage 17hmr, web site said they were out of stock so I figured the backorder would take forever.... it didn't.

Installed it today, easy 'drop in' install. Everything lines up like it should. I got the factory bottom metal with it and man is that stuff CHEAP. The trigger guard is fine but the floor plate is even wimpier than the one that came with the plastic factory stock. Forget about torquing the action into the stock with this metal, it deforms if you look at it too hard.

I know someone makes a thicker plate, but for now I put a washer behind the front mount hole between the stock and the metal and that gave it something solid to torque to.

Won't get a chance to take it to the range until the weekend to see how it shoots but it _feels_ a whole lot better. Doesn't flex like the plastic one and the grip lets me get my hand in the proper position. That alone is worth it.

Here is the before picture in the factory stock (which I had painted green, might do that with the new one too).

While you can order bottom metal from savage it will be the same thin metal that came with the rifle to start with. Most want an upgraded, or thicker bottom metal to resist warping and damaging the stock. DIP makes a great version as does savagegunsmithing.com.

Nice looking rig dude. Glad you like your boyds. I couldn't be any happier about my RVT i got from them. Good stuff.

I don't understand people with their 'nor cal' stuff who live in the SF bay area. Look at a map, it's not really in the north, it's in the middle. If you want to represent 'nor cal', go to Red Bluff.

Went with tan instead of green, just to mix things up a bit. It actually looks darker in real life, not quite so white. I'm happy with it, now I just need to get it to the range and see how it works there. Picked up some of the 10 round mags to try out as well.
