Hello guys
Over the past 2 years or so I have been getting back into shooting at a kinda slow pace. When I was a kid I went hunting with my dad (who is an excellent shot) almost every weekend and was shooting everything from .22s to shot guns to deer hunting rifles but in my mid teenage years I kinda got away from it. Fast forward to mid twenties and I started digging my old guns out of the gun cabinet some of my friends invited me to do some hunting with them once I got a little more used to shooting again and a series of dumb decisions later I ended up buying a new gun. A mosin 91/30… which brings me to my question. I love trying long shots (usually resulting in exploding dirt instead of a knocked down target) and instead of listening to people like my dad that said this gun was not what I was looking for I went ahead and got it. I put a scope and bent bolt on it and to much money later I have a big rifle with a big scope that cant bench shoot 1 inch groups at 30ish yards. Needless to say it was in fact not what I wanted after all. So my question is this. Is this gun worth trying to get some more accuracy out of or do these things tend to just be a lost cause? I have read many threads on these things and it seems that this gun may be shooting what could be considered normal for a mosin. I know this forum tends to be fans of top end guns but being as I am finishing up my last year or so of college I’m not going to be running out any buying any expensive stuff. I found a deal on a bull barrel and an aftermarket laminated stock for around $250. I’m tempted to try to make the gun better thinking that then it will shoot fairly accurate but I cant help but think I really need to quit throwing money at this thing. in the future I am for sure going to stick to the more quality stuff and try not to make this mistake again. any recommendations?
thanks for all the great info on this site. it has been very helpful for my other guns as well
