Ok now I've done it. I just purchased a IOR 2.5x10x42MM from Scott at Liberty optics. How can I use that MP-8 Reticule for coyote hunting ? Mine is SFP ? Do I need to just study up on use of Mil Dot reticule and figure how a coyote fits between the marks ?

Re: IOR MP-8 and coyotes

Use the mils as they were intended.

A typical coyote is about 20" tall.

20" x 27.778 / mil reading = distance to coyote.

If they are within a few hundred yards, you can simply reference a drop chart in mils that you can print and stick on the inside of your scope cover or tape to your stock. If the coyote is farther away, chances are he's hung up and sitting out there. Use the above formula to drop one on his chest.

Take the next coyote you shoot, and mock him up in different poses... and take measurements. That should allow you to engage at just about any angle using any measurement he's showing you.

Its SFP Second Focal Plane?

And its easier to figure the body is 9" or 10" deep. 9" works easier with mills if I remember right, and MOA is easier with 10"

In the winter, they are about 10" deep.

So, if the yotes body takes up 2 MOA, he's 500 yards

Man, I gotta say I'd prolly put that little dot in the center of the reticle real steady like on his noggin and squeeze the trigger.....
