I have come across a deal on one and I can't seem to find any good videos on how far the throw is. I am wanting a smaller light than the ginormous one I have on my coyote rifle. Will this give me a good beam out to say 300-400 yards?

Nope, the SF IR illuminators are really good for flooding a back yard or a large room though. I have a few of the V lights and they're very handy. If you have a really good deal on it and wind up not wanting it, let me know, I may be interested.

IR laser illuminators like PEQ2 are great for long range but up close they're not much different than a laser. These are what they are, IR flashlights, and they work really good up close like other SF lights.

Some of these guys know about the various IR LED illuminators but I'm only familiar with the full power PEQ's and SF V lights.

$212 is a pretty good price I thought.

It is a pretty good deal. Surefire is probably going to bump the output up or have a newer model sometime soon so they've been blowing out the old ones. It's a good ir illuminator for 150 maybe 200yds. I just bought another to run on my helmet.

Definitely a good deal IMO, I paid $270 for mine a few years ago and that was a great deal at the time. I have used mine out to 200 yd (IR) on my PS90 SBR, that really is the practical limit and will vary based on ambient lighting. They are good lights, not the latest/greatest/brightest but they are dependable and have a small footprint.

I have a Steiner spir and it’s good for both. It is focus adjustable so you can spread it out close or tighten it for long range. It will light up 400yds like crazy. I’ve used it on steel to 1k.

Those surefires have shot reviews. Sound like they break a lot

I don't know, short of something being run over or blown up, I've never managed to break a SF light on a gun.

I'll admit that some of SF's stuff is a bit overpriced and underwhelming (or their thought process doesn't make sense) and I vastly prefer the Streamlight switch over the stupid SF 'push' switch but SF lights at least stand up to getting the shit beat out of them.

OP - that light is basically a pistol light for pistol engagment distances. Be sure you like the way SF has their tail cap work (I hate it). Having to press forward on your weak side hand, while gripping a pistol, is literally the most counterproductive thing for grip you could do short of taking your fucking hand off of the gun.

I've been looking at these 2 IR Illuminators if it helps:
Laserluchs and Jahnke

My criteria was for a laser based light source not LED diode, small form factor and not ITAR.

Unfortunately I'm in Australia and can't get access to all your USA goodies with ITAR.. Otherwise I would get that MAWL thing that all you gents have.

Go to Russia via Pommeyland. Should not have any problems with ITAR going that route. This is probably what you seek. This unit is a super excellent performer. It will light up out to 1500 meters no problem. Eat a meat pie and wash it down with a Toohey's for me. Miss the hell out them meat pies. Where are you located in the land Down Under? Gunnedah for me from 66 to Nov 78.

Thanks mate! Don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm a health professional. So I used to live out west for a while. Still visit mates in Goondiwindi and Surat heaps. Queensland, the land of XXXX cat piss, not Tooheys ??

The illuminator you linked looks almost identical to the Lunar optics ELIR?

That Illuminator is the exact same as what is called a Luna ELIR-3 over here in the States. They are made in the Dipol factory in Belarus.

Did a good bit of pigin up at Moree on the Barwon, but never made it up to Goondiwindi that I can remember.

If you search some of my posts you will see some more detailed information about that very unit. Pictures of how I set them up with Thumbscrews in the windage and elevation adjustment holes instead of those allen key screws. Makes it a lot quicker and easier to center up to your optics. Also have some photos taken at 1,000 yards that will show the beam. You can adjust the beam from wide to a laser pinpoint light saber.
