Digging through the ammo pile I came across roughly 3,000 Eley sport in the purple box. I must have grabbed what I could get during the last shortage. Don’t remember ever shooting any and am just starting to get into “precision .22”. Is it just bulk junk?

Having only collected a little data from other's back to that period (have not fired any myself), the chrono numbers don't look good. ES's were awful . . . like in the 100's and SD's were high. Maybe you're got a good lot there or maybe is jut good for plinking, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd test it in my own rifle(s) before considering it junk. I've had some respected ammo not do so well in a rifle whereas the cheaper ammo (i.e. CCI SV) did very well.

All you can do is try it and see. I have had expensive ammo that was crap and cheap am that was amazing. Usually my crap ammo goes into the pile for my boys to shoot in their Ruger 22/45. That thing will shoot about anything and at 5-10 yards it doesn’t really matter how accurate it is.

All Eley makes is 22 LR, I would go out on a limb here and say there is more to the process than random chance at the packaging line that these boxes will sell for $20 ea and the other ones will sell for $5.
