Noticed that accuracy was getting erratic and started troubleshooting. Action screws had come loose and found this . Is it repairable or not worth the effort? I'm not wild about this stock in the 1st place anyhow and I'm considering starting over with something I know I like.

Noticed that accuracy was getting erratic and started troubleshooting. Action screws had come loose and found this . Is it repairable or not worth the effort? I'm not wild about this stock in the 1st place anyhow and I'm considering starting over with something I know I like.
It's a Mcmillan Game Warden, work done by a very well known, very expensive person that I won't be using again!
It can be fixed just dremel all the shit out and find some trough epoxy filler (one with fibers)and redo the pillar & bedding.

I have fixed far, far worse. Short of running a composite stock through a tree chipper or a furnace, you really can't ruin it. All you do is create more work for yourself.

I figured you'd chime in, trouble is I don't really care for the stock. Might just chuck it.
I'm sure it's worth saving. Super-glue, duct tape, and a little bailing twine ... and it'll be good as new.

A really good shooting bud had the same accuracy issue. He pulled the BA from the Manner's stock and it was cracked in about the same place as yours. It was an older version and didn't have the Mini-Chassis.
Although the stock was at least five years old Tom replaced it free of charge and the new stock included the Mini-Chassis.
Not sure the manufacturer of yours will do that (honestly way above and beyond CS) but might be worth a shot.

McMillan has a life time guarantee. Send it back and they will replace it. Then do what you want with it.

Did it come with the magnum fill in the action area? My guess is it didn't.
Did you order it directly from McMillan? They always ask for the caliber so they know what fill to use to avoid problems like this.
odd place to break. Almost as if the action screw was acting as a recoil lug inside the pillar.
That was my first thought but then I saw that the recoil lug pocket is all cracked up too, I think it was all just more than the material was designed to handle and it is all giving out. Wonder if the previous owner noticed it and dumped it off on you Weiser?
The recoil stresses appear to have started a crack at the rear face of the recoil lug bedding. As soon as that gave, the recoil forces were transmitted to the pillar, which likely gave out immediately.
As has been stated by the forums fine gunsmiths, the shell and filler materials were insufficient to handle the recoil forces.
It can be repaired if you want, but since your already not happy with the stock, replace it with something made with your level of recoil in mind.

I'm not sure the previous owner was aware of it. He claimed to have fired 21 rounds and sold it. Seems like a good guy so I don't have any reason to doubt him. I fired about 35 rounds before discovering the issue.
Looking at it closer the entire surface for the lug face is broken up. Wonder if there was an air pocket in that area of the bedding and it just collapsed and caused a domino effect.

you can fix almost anything if you really are willing to put in the work you could even turn it into something really nice .
Just curious, were you able to confirm what fill the stock had? I know a couple folks posted that it looked like Mcmillan's Edge fill from the pics.
If so, is that likely the culprit behind it cracking? Or possibly an air bubble in that area? 300 Norma has pretty stout recoil, but I am kind of surprised that it did that. Looks like it isn't the first time it's happened either, from what others are saying.

Who knows, we'll see what Mcmillan has to say about it. If it's edge fill and they won't warranty it I wouldn't blame them. I think the edge fill is rated to 300 WM only. If they ask what cartridge I was shooting I'm not gonna lie just to try and get it fixed for free .
I'm not making them do anything, if they decide not to repair it that's fine with me. I don't hold them accountable at all , edge fill stocks aren't rated for 300 Norma . If there's anyone to blame it's me, should have done more research before the purchase.

The existing corvettes, boats, and composite aircraft are all pristine examples fortunate to have never been in any sort of mis-hap which is why they are so valuable.

It's funny that in my early days every time I traded for a new 4x4 truck (often) I would drive off the lot fearing the day it would get even a small scratch. Then, around 1987, I bought a new Chevy 4x4 right before deer season. I had to go down for a work day two days after I drove it home. I'm standing in the woods working on a shoot house with a screwdriver in hand. I look at my pristine new Chevy with that same old trepidation. Something hit me and I walked over to it, slipped that screwdriver blade down in a discreet area and scratched the paint. Never worried about that on any vehicle since.
+1 to have LRI make it right. That would be a good one for before, during, and after pictures. When you get it back it will probably look better than new. It may even have a nice piece of walnut it. I would scrap it because I have gone almost all to chassis or wood for certain toys. I have a stack of stocks and only a few still on rifles.
I know a few good smiths who won’t touch any of the light fill ( such as edge) stocks, because they have seen this sort of thing happen.
What do you have that you want to get rid of? I need something for a SA Remington.
My last project was a Macmillan A4 inletted for a LA Winchester 70.
Ground it out where it needed it, installed a cross bolt behind the front pillar and bedded pillars into it.
It turned out great, but needs a skim bed to make it pretty.
I even got the Magpul bottom metal (plastic) to feed 100%.
Anything I still have I'm keeping. Usually I will donate to young people who show an interest.
