This is my 6.5 CM barrel right up by the throat. It is a krieger barrel with I'm guessing under 1500 rds . I don't keep real good count. Further down the barrel it looks fine except for maybe some uneven copper fouling. And yes I'm having trouble shooting, one of us has a real problem. My thoughts were to clean it good and try again.

Not shooting well 1 MOA at best.

Velocity is consistant.
current load
2930 FPS ,130gn, using 43.0 gns H4350

140gn bullets I shoot around 2810 fps using 41.7 gns H4350

It is a teslong bore scope. I don't see any signs of fire cracking past 3.5 inches. I have checked all my toque's on spur mount and action as well. It is just strange something all the sudden isn't working. It has been a rock solid setup. I am planning on doing a good barrel clean and review of my reloading.

Looks like some good old fashioned fire cracking to me.

Barrels are Expendables like bullets brass and primers.

I'd toss it and spin on a new one if it isn't shooting anymore.

Yea I know just hoping to get more out of it. I have a blank sitting in the safe may be time to at least get it spun.

Drive side of land looks a bit baked but I've shot well with worse. what is the shot dispersion like? Vertical, hori, or all over the place? Check the business end for accuracy if your velocity is consistent, ie look at your crown if it's all over the place. On your spare keep closer attention to round count and clean schedule.

Groups are pretty much all over. 1 or 2 close then WTF was that. I usually Know when I pull one . When i was checking velocity SD 11 ES 28 little high but should sill shoot.... Yes i need to keep better records .

When SS barrels go they usually go. Sometimes you can set the chamber back, but it usually takes quite a few inches on length to gain your rifling back. Check your crown, that is your business end for accuracy. they do wear at both ends, but sometimes it's an errant ding from a cleaning rod you thought could never damage but did that one time. Put that teslong in muzzle end and eyeball every land on exit

Have you adjusted your load at all since new?
I commonly have to add powder to maintain speed and occasionally I am forced to adjust jump to get groups back in line.

I recently had a short magnum barrel die.
it had 1931 rounds through it.
You can tell visually about 4 inches of rifling missing and it was far uglier than your pics when it was hammering like a boss.
It suddenly dropped a lot of speed and Suddenly got fliers.
I had already had to add almost a full Grain to maintain speed.

My last 6.5 Creedmoor barrel you had a hard time telling land vs. groove for the first couple inches. In short order somewhere around 3000-3100 rounds it started throwing really bad fliers, especially when hot. It would still often put together decent (.5-.8 MOA) groups, but just as often would throw one out to make it 1.2-1.75 MOA for 5 shots. Unfortunately I didn't monitor velocity much for the last few hundred rounds. I never changed load or seating depth.

Your barrel doesn't look bad, but I don't profess to know exactly what causes accuracy to disappear. I'm sure not all of them eat away the same.

It's the same load that shot great. velocity the same. In the process of cleaning now. It is definitely heavily fouled. IDK if the condition of the barrel is causing it to foul more i would think so. Gonna let the wipe out work .

Most everybody has an opinion, but my experience is a barrel with that amount of fire cracking and alligatoring will shoot fine with a light layer of fouling in the cracking. Light layer.
Too much fouling, well, no barrel likes that.
Check the crown, for sure.

Just to share an anecdote or two...

This is my practice barrel after around 3000+ rounds of 223. Needed a heavy cleaning. So I worked it hard.

Scraped so much carbon (I believe XBR to be especially dirty powder) out of the brake my POI moved .3 mil at 100yds.

The point here, its still printing half MOA or better at 4k+ rounds now and that's what the inside looks like.

If you give it a thorough cleaning, including the brake/crown and it still won't shoot you may have to adjust your load.

If that doesn't work it might be time. Looks can be deceiving. I beat this thing like a red headed step child but it still shoots.

Well i gave it a good clean. I was able to shoot some 1/2" groups today at 100yards. I will try some distance here soon. I was actually surprised how dirty it was. I get caught up in that whole clean don't clean your barrel , what to clean with. Anyway wipe out and some #9 got it pretty clean. I think it had been screaming clean me for awhile. I will keep an eye on it and I am definitely in the camp of clean your rifle regularly. Keeping better records of it also. Even when first cleaned it shot better than what it was. Thanks for all help.

great news. Borescopes never come with training, and I'm still learning...
