Is the "FBI contract" 223 suitable for deer?

with shot placement all things are possible. There are better bonded bullets for hunting but as you say it is at a nice price point.

I shot a deer with OTM 50grain. It dropped where I hit it at 200meters. It was a lung shot. The deer breathed three breaths of pink foam when I reached it, and died.

I would reccomend the 75grain TAP FBI load for deer. I mean seriously, lets give the bullet some expansion < for the sake of a quick kill. (midway has the 55's and 75's and either would be better than OTM).

My local Gander mountain was biased against the 5.56 so all they had were match bullets and I needed a hunting load so I had to use match for hunting in a pinch, which isn't ideal.

I think it would work fine on deer, however the Wyoming Fish and Game requres .23 cal or better, so here we are limited to the .243 and above.

That does look like a good price.
