Issue with steel AK mags

I have an AMD 65 (Hungarian AK-47) and it will not accept plastic mags so I have to buy steel. I bought several and all of them have this same issue... if I load more than 10-15 rounds into it, the follower tilts and becomes stuck. At that point, it will not load and I can literally just dump the ammo out of the mag. In traditional AK fashion though, a quick bang against the concrete will correct the follower and it will fly back up to the top.

Can anyone recommend some "reliable" steel AK mags that I can order? I don't know what is going on with these.

Way back in the day when I dabbled in AK's the Chinese and Russian mags always worked 100% in the PolyTech and Norinco models that were popular at the time. At that time a case of ammo was $79, and the rifles were going for $159 with three mags and cheesy sling and bayonet.

This is based on the AK-47 , not 74 or 101.

The Korean mags are Junkers.

European and Comblock Mags are the only ones worth it.

Best to worst Goes goes something like this:

East German > Russian > Bulgarian > Polish > Yugo > Romanian > Chineese > Surplus Combloc and New European Plastic Mags with Steel Lips and Lugs> Junk like magpul pmags and other plastic AK47 mags > Korean Mags

You can still buy quality surplus euro mags pretty cheap if you look. Apexgun parts had a good deal going 10 for $90, and alot of us bought a shitload, best mags for the money hands down. Mix of Rommy, EG, Polish and Yugos.

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/50/products_id/4195 BUY AS MANY AS YOU CAN AFFORD. They will never be this cheap, and they will only go up in value. As time goes on, they will run their course and you will be paying $50 for an old rusty euro mag.

Also pick up a couple of these: Romanian AK-47 7.62x39 75rd Drum Magazine, Wind up, Blued Steel, New. . Also cheap as shit and will only go up in value. Stay away from anything Korean or Asian. The Rommy Drums are amazing.

I've had zero problems with bulgarian, romanian, and chinese mags in my yugo. Crapco mags work great too, especially the smooth sided ones. The waffle-looking ones you have to sand the sides of them so they fit in the magwell.

My pick would be chinese if you can find em.

take 'em apart and make sure there isn't a glob of cosmoline or some other obstruction causing the issue.

this is assuming they're surplus and not korean (KCI, light gray color) manufacture. those are just....ick.

if i weren't in MD i'd be jumping on a couple more bakelites from AIM. but they won't even let me order them and have them shipped to iowa (where i can retrieve them and bring them into MD completely legally, just can't buy/sell/xfer inside state lines) because my billing address is in MD.

Because they are rare, high quality, won't rust, look badass and Russian

Polish mags are VERY good. Clean them out and maybe change the springs if they look old and worn.
