First thing I'd like to say is no, I'm not dying or planning on harming myself. That's the first question most of my friends have asked when telling them this information. So, please don't be concerned.

I just wanted to thank everyone here for the amazing conversations and making this section of the forum an online home for many of us. You guys are truly exceptional people, and I've enjoyed hanging out with all of you! Unfortunately, I'm soon going to stop posting on the forums, and I'd like to at least give my friends here an explanation instead of just disappearing.

I've been collecting firearms for about 12+ years now, and I've also been active on the gun forums for most of this time. I recently decided to sell almost all of my collection, and spend more of my free time with my wife. Those who are close to me know about my health issues, so this will also give me some time to seek some solutions for that stuff. I've been in constant pain for many years, and it's difficult for me to do much of anything, especially when it comes to moving a bunch of guns around!

I'll still make a few posts here and there, until I'm off the forums for good. Many of you have my contact info, so we'll still be able to discuss things off-line. I'm also giving collectors I know first crack at the stuff I'm selling. Whatever doesn't get sold immediately will be posted to GunBroker and the rest will probably go to an auction house like Rock Island Auctions.

I don't want this to turn into a "for sale" thread, in violation of the forum rules. You guys can keep an eye on this forum's PX section and on GunBroker, or you can drop me a private message if there's anything in particular that you might be looking for. Just please don't post items in this thread or it will get shut down by the mods.

Once my collection is sold, that's when I'll close down my forum accounts, but I'll still be around (sparingly) for the next few weeks/months. It seems weird to just start a thread just to say that I'm leaving the forums and collecting community, but I've been told by a few close friends that I've had a positive effect on this community and that I should probably let people know what's going on. One person doesn't make a community, it takes all of us working together to make our great community. I'm just a small piece of it, nothing more, and our community will continue to thrive long after I've retired.

This is just a head's up on what I'm doing, once my collection sells, I'll make a final post on this forum. Until then, I'll make a few posts when I have time. And again, nothing bad is happening to me, I'm just selling my collection and leaving the forums. I'd like to travel more, and seek solutions for my medical issues. I'll still be around in the real world, hopefully hanging out with many of you guys in person!

    Semper Fi!

Post pics of the collection before you go?

I certainly get it, I was spending all my free time on forums years ago that or building a gun, or going shooting. Wife was not happy, kids were growing up fast… I logged off of the forum I was on, and calmed way down on the gun stuff to spend more time being more productive around the house and could spend more time with the wife and kids.

You, SIR, are one fine Gentleman, of the top quality, best of the best, don't come better than you.

Best to you with the health problems.
Stay safe, careful, and find that which you wish for,

Gosh. I don’t know what to say. So, I’ll call this weekend to catch-up, and thanks for letting us know. I’ll just say that I respect your expert knowledge, very much admire your personal generosity, and have “vicariously” enjoyed looking at your collection for many years.

More importantly, I do hope your health issues will improve in the near-term, that you are able to enjoy your travels, and I sincerely wish you and your wife the very best moving forward. Thank you again for all that you have done, and best wishes during the future chapters of your life.
I could say more, but will call you instead.

To just say “Thank You” doesn’t seem adequate in light of of your contributions to this community. I haven’t been around for very long, but I have gained a lot on knowledge from you, and for that matter, many others here. I will miss your insight, and sense of humor, but understand that there are aspects of life that must take priority. Wishing you all the best that life has to offer. Semper Fi!

Ryan, thanks for being an inspiration for all of us young guns here in the hide, and I’m sure you are the same to those around you in your life. Keep being a mentor and doing what you do. I’d have liked to meet you in person and see that great collection of firearms that you told me of in our conversation. Enjoy the rest of your years ahead of you and your time with your wife. Thanks again, sir!

I agree with @sirhrmechanic post above. Would love a book. I don't really own any gun books but would definitely buy yours.

I'm not likely to ever own an m40 and if I ever did I would mirror it to make it lefty (were there ever any lefty m40's?).

Have loved reading your posts over the years.

I would keep at least 1 rifle that you wouldn't mind shooting. You will likely miss stuff but if you have 1 that won't be so bad.

    Prayers for you.

    Ryan:

Thank you for all of your contributions here. I've really enjoyed them and learned a lot.

I am also at a turning point in life after a visit to the hospital two days ago. I'll probably sell most of my guns, but I'll keep a couple of rifles and a couple of handguns that I have sworn not to sell.

    Stay safe!

    Best regards from Norway.

My dad, before he passed, had chronic pain related to nerve issues from exposure to.chemicals during the first Gulf War. He also developed severe Parkinsons. The ONLY thing that helped him and we tried just about every medication known to mankind, was THC extracts (concentrates). Once he started the stuff he lived a pretty normal life and got an extra decade with my mom that they would not have enjoyed otherwise. Before he started the stuff he couldnt even feed himself due to the shakes. A drop of that stuff on his tongue and in 15 minutes he barely had any tremors or pain at all. I would not have believed it had I not witnessed it myself. Just food for thought

He did the same as you are considering, sold all his guns, motorcycles and whatnot. They used to funds to travel and just enjoy their time together. He would have lasted longer I believe but he contracted Covid (bad case of it) went to the hospital (the VA) and they sent him due to no available beds (even though he could not breath) and he died that night waiting on a bed at the local hospital.

You’ve been a solid part of this community, and your impact here is definitely appreciated. I hope you find the solutions you’re looking for with your health, and that you get to enjoy some more time with your wife, traveling, and just living life.
Take care, and enjoy the journey ahead.

Thanks for having shared so much on the forums! I know I've browsed through your posts countless times. Along with everyone else, I certainly appreciate the knowledge and history that you've taken the time not only to collect, but made a point of discussing and sharing altogether.
