Re: JAN 2013 SH LONG RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

The subject of changing from 25 to a 10 round count has resurfaced, results from the poll are a 50 / 50 split with 10 folks weighing in. So it looks as if the round count will stay at 25 for 2013.

Rifle Russian vostok CM-2, 22LR
shooting on a table so it is 100YB-TQ4
scope 6-24x50 konus
ammo: CCI SV 0032
front : caldwell front rest, rear shoulder
temp 31 F
wind 5-6 MPH, changing
score 248 or 249? 14x-15x?
After over a month without going to the range, I was happy to report that I was not as rusty as my age would indicate. Because it was cold I took the ammo box out to the car one hour early so as to get ammo temps as close to the outside temp. as possible, in the hope that I would not have as many flyers. I think the result looks good, at least it did not hurt, but I have to try a couple more times to see if the improvement is real.
The wind being 5-6 MPH is not too bad, but changed from R to L direction to L to R every 2-3 min. I was aiming at 4' between X ring and 10 ring on about 15 of the 25 shoots, aiming at 10' between X ring and 10 ring for about 7-8 shoots( with the rest aimed closer to the X ring line). The two shoots went high( 15th and 21st round fired). One was caught by wind change, the other that just touched the 10 ring line i think went supersonic( I heard a loud pop) and the bullet impact the paper kind of side ways, yawed somewhat, so I took it as bad round, but maybe it was me. Therefore, I think I only had 2 rounds up high, but looks like a hole for 3 rounds, not sure it would be 248 or 249. In this cold I am happy with the result either way.
One more note on the ammo: I think I have just about maxed out the accuracy potential of this CCI SV 0032 with this rifle, on a good day, is close to 2 inch groups for 25 rounds 100 yard shoots. now my goal is to get this 2 inch group regardless wind or temp every time i am out there, if i can do that i will be happy, some goal to aim for.
