Revised Rules for January 2010 100 to 300 Yard Competitons:

(Note: The shot count per target competition has been reduced to 25 total shots...)

100 Yard to 300 Yard - Rimfire - 25 Shot Match Rules (revised January 1, 2010);

1. This is open to all SH Forum members.

1.a. Any small bore Rimfire caliber is welcome.

2. We will use the A21 Target for the 200 Yard Paper Match, and the TQ-4 Target for the 100 Yard Paper Match. Both Targets can be purchased from; http://www.pistoleer.com/targets/ or a dealer of your choice.

2a. We will use a 3.5 inch metal round disc for the "100 Yard Gong Match" and a 5x7 inch metal gong for the "200 Yard Gong Match"

3. You may use as many targets as you choose for your course of fire, (25 Shots), or you may use one target and score/repair target as needed. Target Pasters or masking tape may be used to repair targets. Just be sure to score your target first before repairing it.

4. Matches will be shot from the designated position outlined below in the Match Discription.

f. Match - 100YB-35RDB - (100 yards) "3.5 inch .22 Round Disc" - Bench
g. Match - 200YP-57GP - (200 yards) "5x7 inch gong" - Shot From Prone
h. Match - 200YB-57GB - (200 yards) "5x7 inch gong" - Shot From Bench

Additional 2010 Gong Matches Starting This January. Same COF and Rules Apply;

Match - 100YP-25RDP - (100 yards) "2.5 inch Round Disc" - Prone
Match - 100YB-25RDB - (100 yards) "2.5 inch Round Disc" - Bench

Match - 200YP-5RDP - (200 yards) "5 inch Round Disc" - Prone
Match - 200YB-5RDB - (200 yards) "5 inch Round Disc" - Bench

Match - 250YP-8RDP - (250 yards) "8 inch Round Disc" - Prone
Match - 250YB-8RDB - (250 yards) "8 inch Round Disc" - Bench

Match - 300YP-10RDP - (300 yards) "10 inch Round Disc" - Prone
Match - 300YB-10RDB - (300 yards) "10 inch Round Disc" - Bench

The butt of the rifle must be supported in your shoulder without any aids such as lock'in devices or sandbags, (though locking in with a sling is permissable). This Rule is for both "Prone & Bench" shooting. The use of a Bi-Pod, or Sandbags to support your rifle's barrel is allowed. You could also use a chunk or backpack to rest your rifle barrel on when shooting.

5. There will be four (4) Classifications;

a. Class - O [Open Iron Sight]
b. Class - A [Aperture Sights]
c. Class - S [Scope - There are no restrictions on power]
d. Class - L [Laser]

6. Posting your score(s):

Everyone taking part should post their score(s) in the following manner. If a thread has not been started to post your score(s) - just start a new thread with the Subject reading;

and post your scores in that months' thread.

7. The Course of Fire (COF) for each Match will be will 25 Shots.

8. SCORING: Paper targets are scored by point value of ring. Gongs are scored by how many times you hit them out of 25 shots - 25(hits) of 25(shots).

9. There are a total of 8 Matches. You may enter a score for any number of these matches each month that you wish to shoot in - but you may only enter a score once for each match you choose to shoot in per month.

shooting 300 yards with a .22! I have got to try that. I just did my first 200 yard shoot and loved it. Joe,now i see why you would want a 20 or 30 moa rail. We cant shoot 300 rimfire on our range, safey thing, but next time we shoot on Ft. Bragg at the 1000 yard range i plan on shooting some 22 at the 300 yard line.
its a kd range so we should have it easy. we will use the 300 yard XTC target and iron sights.

I gotta say it's pretty damn tough. Even with the .17 HMR let alone a .22 LR. 200 yards is no problem with the 17. But a lot more happens in that last 100 yards to get out to 300.

the 17 looks like a good round for the longer stuff. But as one guys said, " i have to many things, i can't reload for now." I may look at a 17 but i would think, before that there are center fire rounds i would go with. I love the .22 as its cheap (?) and easy to shoot. our first try out at 200 was pretty good. 6 in. groups with iron, it was real cold and windy, so i shot it just like a long range match and played the wind. That was the first time i had ever fired a 200 yard .22, but ya I'm hooked.

Thought I'd try the Federal 510B with the 3-9x32 scoped Lakefield from 100 yards off the bench this afternoon. My
score pretty much reflects why I prefer my scoped Savage MK II-FVT for 100 yards on out. Anyway, I shot it, I earned it, don't really want it, but it's mine, so I'll take it, 'cause I have to.

Note: Should use a scope with more then a 50-yard parallax setting for 100 yard shooting.

Fired Sunday just getting it posted.
sniff, sniff, Just zeroed my rifle with this ammo. Pretty nice group right at center.
Fired this rapid fire prone with three mag changes. Pretty much as I have been shooting all the SH matches.
Nice group but centered at 5 oclock in the nine ring.
Febuary is comming.

I don't mean to be controversial, but I keep talking myself in and out of whether or not that "out" hole on target 3 clipped the 10-ring. At first glance, it looked out. When I used a scoring marker, it looked in. Then I tried to put a .224 bullet in the hole to see if I could get a better look. I ended up giving to myself because I am shooting at 110... but if anyone has an objection, you can knock me down to a 249.

I prefer to shoot with those better than my self. Some of that just might rub off. And if pride and ignorance are not to big of obstacles, I might learn something.

Point well-taken. It is just frustrating to me because the first two scores I turned in were 300 out of 300... and the scores have dropped off from there. I was really hoping for a 250/250 and every time I go back to score that shot, I change my mind. Not an easy call.

Thanks to all that participated this month, and your input in the learnings thread.

We had a few .17's out there doing their thing (and might I add quite nicely), nice to see some .17 data compared to .22lr.

CARTER MAYFIELD again was the man, shooting a 250 out of a possible 250 score ont the TQ1 at 100 yards that's 25 hits in a 2" circle! CONGRATULATIONS!

We picked up a shooter, BREEZE67, and a few regulars didn't chime in, probably the extreme weather that plagued the nation at one time or another had something to do with it.

Also a <span style="color: #FF6600">BIG THANKS to the Sniper's Hide moderators</span> that allowed us to get a "sticky" for our competitions and learnings threads.

With the beginning of the new year, brought some new competition categories, along with some new classes. Time will tell if they need to be tweeked a little, and may be addressed in a few months with everyone's input considered.

Looking forward to February, a month of love, presidents, and groundhogs....and 28 days of "the Hide".

Yeah, I know I am way too late posting... but I thought someone might be interested in the drastic difference in vertical stinging of the CCI Std. Vel. at 200yds compared to 100yds.

It was very bright and sunny, but colder than a mother-in-law's kiss. Also first time using the CCI ammo. I chose to use it rather than the sticky-lube match stuff. I did not weight-sort, and had just a few with a super-sonic crack.

The location where I shoot requires a hike around or through a gully, packing target stands through the snow with the heavy boots and bibs was a good work-out. I couldn't see my hits in the black, and was unwilling to hike back out to check. The sun angle was awful, so I fashioned a make-shift sunshade out of logbook paper and target tape.

The 200 yd group was a little low, but centered left to right. One shot on the A-21 had a super-sonic crack, it was at the top of the nine-ring. Two shots sounded a little flat, one just made the eight-ring, while the other fell just out of the black into the seven. Over all vertical spread was 10.75 inches; and horizontal was just under 4 inches. With 2 minutes of additional elevation, the high shot probably stays in the black, and the low shot may have made the black; but more shots certainly would have been in the nine and ten. Next time I may put up the target backwards and place a target dot at the center so as to better spot the bullet strikes.

I shoot alot of CCI SV. It is a reasonable price but out past 50 yards you will see its short commings.

I normally shoot with a suppressor and out of every 100 in a plastic box, 1 or 2 will be supersonic.(that is 40-50fps faster than published)

I've chrony'd it and my extreem spread was 100 fps with a 30fps standard dev.

CCI SV is way better than bulk. I think, but not match stuff.

I have found with our SH Comps here, at 100 & 200 yards the Subsonic stuff works the best. I like the Eley Sport 1085 fps, but I've also had good luck with the Aguila [Golden Eagle - 1100 fps], and the Aguila [SuperExtra 1135 fps].

However, I shoot at an elevation of 3900' above sea level - so most days here the speed of sound is in the 1117 fps neighborhood which aids in allowing me to use some standard velocity ammo to good effect.

And like eveyone else, I have my off days where I should have just stayed at home instead of going shooting.
