hey everyone, just wondering who uses the jbm app for their phone? is it any good? i saw there was 2 versions. the original is $10 and the "tactical" version is $20..any input? thanks

Re: jbm ballistics app any good?

Had to check but yeah i guess i have the "tactical" version...i really spent $20 on a app?? Damnit lol

But it is a great app. Can't compare to the other version but if i remember right the difference is the more expensive version has the HUD display...could be wrong tho.

The thing i like about it is that you don't have to know the ballistic coefficient/muzzle velocity/etc if you're using factory ammo. Just choose the specific cartridge from the load list for your caliber and there it is. Has the standard features of zero distance, and can also pull up your actual elevation/temp/barometric pressure/etc as long as you have service.

Haven't used the HUD feature in actual shooting but could see it coming in handy... Just workup your load, save to favorites, and select it in the HUD and you can quickly select distance/wind and it will give you the drop/windage in inches and .1 Mils(or MOA)

How accurate is it? Well so far it seems to be pretty accurate...maybe a little off, but then again i have a 20in barrel on my .308 and i'm sure my velocity is slightly different.

Is it worth $20? Well for me it i think it is (even tho i hadn't remembered it cost that much)...i'm lookly forward to testing it some more for accuracy, and if i can get my correct velocity down i can just substitute that for the factory number that comes up.

Btw, you don't have to have cell coverage to use the program or bring up new load data...that's only for the current conditions which can also just manually enter.

I really like it. The hud feature is great, it grabs current weather info for your location, so it will be fairly close on the temp and pressure. You can set the wind on the hud, and the jbm engine is very accurate and I assume it uses the same algorithm as the computer version because the results match up with the phone version.
You can set up several profiles for different loads and select the one you want for the HUD. I like not having to have a dedicated calculator, since I usually have my phone on me I can just grab my rifle and rangefinder and head out.

Re: jbm ballistics app any good?

It is a great app. If you end up using it, keep it mind that it got the wind input backwards. I used FTE version. HUD is good.

There are other applications that are very good - Shooter ($10) and Bullet Flight ($30).

Re: jbm ballistics app any good?

thanks for the help.. i have been considering it for awhile and it did have good ratings. i was just kinda worried because im rough on phones and if something were to happen, im out not just my iphone but an additional $20 dollar app. any other users out there?? i keep hoping for someone to talk me out of it but it looks like im gonna have to give it a try. haha

Re: jbm ballistics app any good?

From what I've read everyone always says that its a good app. You have to remember with these apps, garbage in garbage out. If you input incorrect data its definitely going to give you incorrect data. Use this in combination with the whiz wheel and you can get things very accurate for far less than other ballistic software.

yes.. ANY app can do it if you know how... but the bets app for it is Shooter on IOS... u can put in 5 data points over 1...

read my reviews of all of then in my sig line below..

Thanks 07zx6r for asking the question and to everyone else for the input. I have been reading reviews on this app as well. What are you using to determine wind speed?

Thanks for pointing this out. I don't think I would have found it otherwise.

there is an airport about 2 miles from where i shoot, so i have been using the NOAA metars that are updated constantly.
