Looking into a trigger upgrade but figured i would ask around prior to putting up big money. I am use to the trigger feel that comes standard on an M40A5 and would like to replicate that as best as possible. Any pro/cons on both would be much appreciated.

Both are good. A jewell is nicer but more expensive. If I was you, I would go for a Timney. You can install one yourself and have the factory pre-set the weight for you.

Lcdr, that is the answer i have been given by a few people. Im not to sure the $100+ price difference will be worth it on a jewell. Thanks.

I have a jewel and not a huge fan. Does it work of course but I have had a few issues with it in cold and glacial silt. Do not over look Rifle Basix, from 60f to -30f, glacier silt to wooded dirt to tundra grass to snow and ice, has yet to fail for me. I have never owned but have shot a Timney and it did its job with my limited experience, I just did not like the arc and feel of the shoe. Others like it, that is what makes horse racing!

For me it turned out to be a preference matter. I had both triggers and both felt good in terms of functional qualities. I did not prefer one over the other with regard to creep, break etc. However, I had grown accustomed to the old style factory Remington trigger "feel;, with regard to trigger width and texture. The Timney more closely matched the original Remington trigger characteristics so it gave it the edge over the Jewell. I still have the Timney.

I have both and agree with above, the Timney break matches an older style Remington trigger. The shoe is wider and it breaks clean and crisp. I mated the Timney with the rifle I shoot steel and target.
I have a Jewell on my hunting rifle, the shoe is narrow and there is a very slight amount of spring take-up to it (I am talking minuscule) . Set at 2.5lbs it will break clean and I dont want to call it creep, just I feel the trigger is more predictable and I prefer it when shooting offhand.

Love my Jewell triggers, but as others have said the Timney is great to. Try to shoot the two different types on someone's rifle prior to making your decision, if your not sure. Most fellow shooters are glad to let others try there equip.

All good info, thanks all. Of the two guys i know that have one the jewell shooter is about to switch to the timney. Maybe i will get a great deal on his used jewell lol. It seems i will go with the timney though.

i currently am running a jewell on my 700sa spartan precision build, but im actually looking at swapping it out for a timney. the jewell feels great as far as trigger pull but at the same time it almost feels kind of fragile. like if i pulled it too hard i could damage something.the stock xmark trigger the rifle started out with felt alot more durable and im thinking the timney is going to be also.

When you buy a rifle from Surgeon, you get to choose between a worked over x-mark pro or a Jewell. In that case, I'll take the Jewell. However, if I was upgrading a 700, I would by a Timney because I can install it myself and the extra $150 for a Jewell over a Timney isn't really worth it.

I've got two Jewell triggers. I love them, but... I had my new gun out of the stock the other day and I heard something fall on my bench. Looked and it was a tiny flathead screw. I looked over the action and found two empty screw holes in the side of the trigger. I guess they had backed out under the vibration of firing. I replaced the one I still had. No telling how long ago the other had been missing. I called Jewell up and they are sending another screw to me. Great customer service. Y'all might want to do a check on your triggers though.

I have jewels in 4 bolt guns. Never had any issues with function. No experience with Timney.

You couldn't pay me to run a Jewell in a field gun. They're crap when they're dirty and they get dirty by just looking at them. Screw Jewell triggers for anything but benchrest.

I have 4 jewels in match guns, 4 timneys in hunting guns and Ar's. Both have there purpose and are good triggers. If you want control over sear engagement and pull weight the jewel is fully adjustable but both work very well.

I saved my money and went with a flat shoe timney. I have a timney on my M98 and it has been used, abused and caked with filth. Never had a problem with it.

I've got Jewells in both of my FTR rigs and haven't had one problem.
