Jim Smith (www.spartantactical.com) has a PR2 class in SoCal Oct 12-14 at the Pala Rifle Range. Its near I-15 on Hwy 76, north end of San Diego county almost to Temecula.

It should be some good training. I volunteered to help out and I will be doing an AAR for those interested, since this is similar to a class he is doing on the East Coast in November, through Grey Group Training.

I think this is going to be a pretty intense curriculum, with students expected to show up ready to go and be squared away. I know guys who are coming down to this course from NV and Colorado.

For those of you in and around SoCal, this might be one to consider.

Re: Jim Smith in SoCal for PR2 Class Oct

We just got back from this training. It was a solid tune up class, with lots of positional shooting, and lots of 10 rd groups, that were mentally demanding to shoot. 300 M cold bore and 500 groups on paper, and steel to 850 YD from supported and unsupported positions, barricade shooting, etc.

We also did 300, 500 dope on turret and then reticle holds from that "zero" for some good point blank timed shooting. Jim let me do a short lecture on our books and reticle hold page for that holdover drill.

We did the usual milling drills, which gave me a chance to check my new SFP NF scope, which is dead on at full, half, and quarter power for range estimating using our to-scale MIL targets.

Jim had PDAs and was able to get the guys come-ups that came from other areas (we had guys who had come from Reno and Denver for example).

I spent a lot of time spotting and had a great tune up on watching trace and wind calls. This facility is great (Pala range north San Diego County), and there are hotels and chow 5 min away.

Class had 20 students (sold out), over half LEO snipers, the rest former mil or civilian marksmen. All had good training, and we met some super folks this week.

Jim brought out his Larue OBR and some of the new tac scopes from leupold, thermal, NV, for show and tell, and night demo, which was informative. It reinforced how much I want a thermal system...

I can give a link to pics if anyone is interested.

Thanks to Jim Smith (and Ops mgr John Fish) from Spartan Tactical for coming to San Diego County to put this on.
