The last few years I trained mostly for endurance: Lighter weight for more reps and lots of cardio (jogging, rucking, boxing etc).

This year (about to turn 50) I decided to start doing heavier weights and my joints are freaking aching constantly. How are you fellas avoiding joint pain?

48 here and still trying to stay as fit as possible. I had a pretty bad shoulder and some unknown elbow injury. I did some peptides for about 40 days which cleared the shoulder right up. The elbow still gets a little angry when lifting weights but is definitely improved after the peptides. Research the “wolverine stack” and make your own decisions as to whether that’s a route you want to go. It’s not cheap, but I was pretty happy with the results after a 40 day cycle.

Drink lots of water. Stay on the light weight high rep routine. Avoid salts and sugars. I’m 58. Started my routine 5 months ago. Joint pain much better. I’ve lost 25 lbs. got 20 more to go. Your body will tell you when to cut back on the weight you lift!

A combination of CBD oil and high DHA fish oil has helped with my joint pain, I have ex-infantry arthritis everywhere. I still weight train almost every day (am 40 y/o) and have seen a decent reduction in my joint pain using this combination. PEA supplementation may help over time but mechanistically speaking I suspect the pain reductions will be minimal.

Not a bad idea to have your doc check a sedimentation rate (ESR), CRP, Ferritin, ANA, RF (rheumatoid actor), IgA,anti-CCP...

Don't forget the Vit D; tumeric and cucurmin, ginger, NAC & alpha lipoic acid, glutathione, green tea, romelain, bioperine ,berberine, glucosamine conchroitan/MSM, boswella, tart cherry, and fish oil all have anti-inflammatory activity. Sometimes you can find a supplement that contains many of these in one product.

I found the pool again around 2010 after the Ortho let me know the thousands of miles in hs/college running destroyed my knees and articular cartilage to the point of surgical intervention. I also found heavy lifting not beneficial to my particular joint issues so it's lighter and more reps. Bit older than you, but all I can say is if you get to a point where you are doing long term joint damage swimming is a fantastic way to keep your aerobic furnace tuned up. The beauty of swimming is with proper technique you can swim as much as you want with zero to negligible impact on your joints and you will absolutely grab strength along the way....staying active is key....sedentary is a killer I just want to keep moving.

The guy that said have a Doc look, this is a good idea when you change something and you start to hurt. You can point directly to that. I changed this and now I am hurting.

Your body is yelling at you for a reason, it is not going to hurt to see why. What does it cost you, a copay? Big deal.

And welcome to your 50's. For me, and I was not kind to my body, lots of metal holding me together, as well as just floating around in there, you will start to slow down a bit, but NEVER stop doing.
