Hey guys, I’ve been doing some load development and will just show my findings here and if anyone has any feedback or advice please share.
The rifle is a JP LRI-20 with the 22” JP supermatch barrel, VMOS BCG in its heaviest config with tungsten weights, SCS also heaviest with tungsten weights and a superlative arms gas block, I went with this setup Bc the rifle is ran suppressed full time and so far it’s been EXTREMELY easy on brass, feeds and ejects like a dream with very little recoil.
I’ve shot 142 rounds so far. After about 70 rounds the barrel sped up about 60 FPS across the range of powder I was loading in which forced me to reset and lower powder charge Bc groups opened up as it sped up. 122 of these were hand loaded with hornady brass/ 140 ELDM’s / federal 210M primers / and different ranges of H4350. Shot my first 20 bullets of 123 scenar’s today with starline brass and a few different ranges of H4350.
The 3 groups I will post here are of 39.6 grains H4350, 39.8 gr, and 40.0 gr. These are the 3 groups of 5 from today that shot the best. The 39.8 grain group I left the 5th shot unmeasured Bc I pulled the shot and may or may not have let out a few cuss words before the scope completely settled. Still showed promise and measured around .800 with the pulled shot measured.
The 123 scenar’s I shot today grouped OK, but not the best, I will lower powder charge and try them again, by the time I reached the hottest loads I had today I was leaving some extractor marks that seemed a tad heavy.
The 140’s are loaded at a 2.81 COAL and the Scenar’s were loaded at 2.78 COAL. SD’s were pretty good and in single digits most of the day with a few loads showing low teens. When is an SD considered unacceptable? 39.6 to 39.8 showed no change in velocity, with the load at 40.0 jumping 25 FPS faster than them. Any feedback appreciated.
