All participants must sign a liability waiver.

    SAFETY
    NRA Safety Rules:
    1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direction, depending on different circumstances.

    2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger.

    3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possible, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun alone and get help from someone who does.

All pistols will be securely holstered, unloaded, without a magazine inserted, unless firing an event. All rifle muzzles will be pointed up or down when transported, and pointed downrange when at a firing position, or may be pointed in a different direction required by a Range Officer (at staging areas). All rifles will be carried unloaded with either: a colored safety flag, or the bolt removed. All weapons will be loaded on Range Officer command. All weapons will be unloaded on Range Officer command. All weapon handling will be done at Range Officer command. Pistols will be loaded on Range Officer command and holstered and secured in the holster. All holstered pistols will be secured during any competitor movement during an event.

Rifles will be loaded, pointing down range, and the bolt will be closed when the competitor locates the target and points the rifle at the target.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Guys,

I have 23 open slots left.

Keep in mind, this is a family atmosphere match. So if you want to bring the older kids to watch or shoot let us know!!!

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

All right guys, we went and setup the CQB house today, and built some of the rifle firing lines. to include the Mil-Hold line

We are looking at 550yds MAX this time around.

This is looking to be one hell of a match.

    John

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    John,

550 yds MAX.....was tuning up the bolt 308 to shoot 800 yds. Now you put my bolt 1/9 twist 223 back in play. Decisions, decisions.

Looking forward to it. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Bob,

    Sorry about that.

we adjusted due to the "noise" of the first match. We want to walk the neighbor's in to this idea. All love the idea. But when we go to the 700yd plus we have to get closer to there locations.

so we decided to increase the level of noise buffer by 200yds for the first match.

If every one is cool after this goes down, we will creep closer and closer to there location each match until we get the first issue.

Then we know what the limit on distance is wile keeping everyone happy.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

PM on the way John. I met up with Glen today but still have a couple questions before I figure out if I am going or not.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    John,

Not a problem. I understand completely. Keeping the neighbors happy, and having a safe place to shoot, trumps all other considerations. My petty musings about 308 v 223, are just that. Musings, not to be taken negatively, on your fine efforts on our behalf.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Guys,

I had some questions sent to me in a PM, so here they are to clear up the air some.

    Hi John,
I've got a couple questions about the Juniper Swamp Match and I'm definitely interested in coming. I thought it was going to be a pistol and AR match but apparently not so that makes things easier for me.

    Anyhow my questions are:
    1. You state the rifle needs to be magazine fed. Is a internal magazine with 5 round capacity going to work or does it need to be a detachable box magazine type?

Sir, no a internal magazine with 5 round mag is just fine. This rule was to not have people show up with a single shot rifle.

2.Is the lack of ability to throw a new mag into my bolt-gun going to hold me back time-wise during any of the stages or will 5 rounds get the job done assuming I can hit the target with them?

Nope, if you need to shoot fast you can single load, or load up the blind mag and have at it. Your speed will be relative to the other shooters. I would bet most people will be running the same type of gear as you are.

    3. I have a thigh holster I can use if I need a locking pistol holster but would a friction retention holster like a Comp-Tac Minotaur be acceptable?

Both are fine as long as the pistol is secure.

I'm thinking my stuff will be good enough but wanted to make sure rather than make assumptions.[/b]

    Sir,

everything sounds just fine to me.

    John

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Guys,

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

Guys, this is going to be a really fun shoot!

We have been working several weekends getting this thing ready to go. There will be rooftop shots, inside building shots, prone supported shots and even a few positional shots with the rifles at varying ranges and target difficulty levels.

We have the CQB house set up for pistol and a coarse of fire using both rifle and pistol.

Lots of targets and plenty of shooting.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Guys,

Went and shot the COF today, for every one that comes, you are going to have BLAST!!!!!!

This COF is nothing but a fun time, we have alot of prop's and fun drills to shoot, and very little paper targets (4) for the rifle with 10 + steel targets.

see you all in one week @ 8:00 - 8:30am.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Some homework for you all.

    Range Card FM 23-10

Quote:

4-26. RANGE CARD

The range card represents the target area drawn as seen from above with annotations indicating distances throughout the target area. Information is recorded on DA Form 5787-R (Sniper's Range Card) (Figure 4-21).

The range card provides the sniper team with a quick-range reference and a means to record target locations, since it has preprinted range rings on it. These cards can be divided into sectors by using dashed lines.

This provides the team members with a quick reference when locating targets--for example: "The intersection in sector A." A range card can be prepared on any paper the team has available.

The sniper team position and distances to prominent objects and terrain features are drawn on the card. There is not a set maximum range on the range card, because the team may also label any indirect fire targets on its range card.

    Fig4-21.gif

Information contained on range cards includes:

    a. Name, rank, SSN, and unit.

    b. Method of obtaining range.

    c. Left and right limits of engageable area.

    d. Major terrain features, roads, and structures.

    e. Ranges, elevation, and windage needed at various distances.

    f. Distances throughout the area.

    g. Temperature and wind. (Cross out previous entry whenever temperature, wind direction, or wind velocity changes.)

    h. Target reference points (azimuth, distance, and description).

You will have to fill out a range card at the start of this match "yes we will give you the target sizes" . Based upon your data, this is what you will use to engage your targets with.

so the distance you record on your range card, will be all the data you will have on the target as a whole.

If you do not know how to do a range card, I would read up on it. The day of the match is not a good time to "learn" this.

    Thanks
    John

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    I have them sir.

All you need to have is something to write with.

BTW, does your data book have range cards in it?

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

    Glenn,

Got a couple things that i thought about on the way home. During the "Got Dots" if John would score and not worry about spotting as well, have the next shooter in line spot for the shooter thats shooting. Another thing, dont know if its feasible but behind the distance pieces of steel a little dirt mound high enough just to top the target and probably a couple feet wide each side of the target to spot impacts on missed shots (God knows i threw enough of em). But other than that i had a blast, thats the most fun ive had shooting in a while. You guys flat wore my ass out. Keep the positional stuff, that was great makes you rethink some of these rifles a little bit. I learned a ton and got to see where some of my weaknesses are. Again to Glenn and John thankyou again and i look forward to shooting with you guys again soon.

Re: Juniper Swamp Tactical Match in Fremont NC 14 Nov

It was nice meeting all of you guys (again for those I have already met before). Was definitely a fun and challenging match that was well planned. If I have any say in it I will come out and shoot it again when you guys are ready for another go-around.

Many thanks to Glenn and John for all the time, effort, and forethought that went into todays events. Truly a cut above.
