Gunsmithing Just bought a gun with a short throat

I just bought a gun and the guy told me it was a 95 Palma 308 chamber. Id like to shoot 175 smk and with this bullet its 2.71 to the lands, i would think it needs to be longer... am i correct? Its never been fired and it has N G Lambeth on the barrel.

Measure it, and if need be cut the throat deeper. PTG makes tools to do this without removing the barrel if you need to.

i did measure it and it just seems short for the 175's at 2.71 to touch

If you reload and it shoots good, then it's no problem.

i do reload i just wasnt sure how it would do or be safe being that short

It's only an issue if you try and shoot factory ammo from it. If you roll your own and do load development, won't be any issue at all.
