To Seymour Johnson AFB... yes that is really the name haha!

Anyone around the area or stationed there? It is is Goldsboro NC. Anyone have any info on the local area? Where should we look to rent a house at? What to stay away from..

Any good info?

Goldsboro is right in between the Triangle Area and the Outer Banks. It's not nearly the military towns that Jacksonville and Fayette-stan are. I think you'll find pretty affordable housing all around the area. You'll be about an hour to Raleigh for night's on the town, and an hour from the beaches around New Bern. If you haven't lived in NC, you're in for a treat. I lived there for 10 years and really enjoyed it.

I know Goldsboro well....born there, grew up near there, and now live about 25 minutes from there (Wilson). It's a small town that owes its continuing existence to SJAFB. It's very base-friendly.
Stay away from the "downtown" area and the "Goldsboro High School district" and you'll be fine. The north and northeast side of town is the side to be on.
Generally, there ain't schit to do there as a single person, but Raleigh is only an hour away. If you have a family, well, it's about like any other small USA town.
It'll be a 1.5 hr. drive to the Emerald Isle beaches....3-4 to the mountains.
Lots of deer hunting in the area, but you'll need to get with a local good ol' boy from church or something in order to gain access.
And it's only about 1.5 hrs. from one of the best real shooting ranges on the east coast - Butner! We have some sort of shoot there at least monthly, more often during the summer.

Hey I appreciate the information! I am hoping there will be stuff for the wife and kids to do while I am at work because where I am at now.. there isnt much!

Maybe we can meet up and have a beer when we get all selttled in! I am now looking for a flight school so I can get my PPL completed! Glad to be in the "birthplace of flight"

I live in clayton which is 20 miles NW of Goldsboro. For kids Goldsboro is almost like every other small to Mid size NC town, lots of sports. We do have several AF Personnel that live in the neighborhoods around us as I see them from time to time at school functions. Then again we have Army personnel that live in the are also, that commute to Ft Bragg which is about 50 Mins away.

There are also plenty of places to shoot in the area.
John Boyette's Juniper Swamp match is held about 25 mins from Goldsboro.

Like others have said, New Bern, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City are not too far to the east and Raleigh is about 45min to 1 hr away, and if you can't find something to do in Raleigh you aren't looking hard enough.
