I received one of the first if not the first LPRs from the group buy about a month ago. Unfortunately, I have been working out of town in Ohio and NM and have not gotten a chance to shoot it until just this last weekend. For a little background on my shooting, I generally shoot off a bench with bags or a rest. Virtually all of my experience is with target/precision rifles or hunting rifles, either hunting or shooting for groups. I would like to get into some of the tactical comps but I am a little leary after seeing how impressive some of the guys are. Furthermore, I am a measure everything twice kind of reloader and enjoy it as much as shooting.
Very new to ARs - this is my second. My first is a KAC Mod 1 that I have had since December that's a lot of fun to shoot but not terribly accurate with the ACOG TA-11B that I have on it. Best groups I have managed with it so far are about two inch average or maybe even a little bigger. I was happy with that and I would probably grab it first if I had to haul it around and only needed to hit things... but I wanted something more accurate. So I had Cliff order me an LPR.
It came in the box just like the Mod 1 with all the same goodies. I had hoped for a test target but I didn't get one. It also didn't come with the new silver trigger that was rumored. I learned from the Mod 1 that I don't particulary care for the stock black KAC trigger. Too much creep in the second stage for me. It didn't matter though because I was already going to switch the trigger out with a Geissele DMR or Match that I already had. Biggest complaint -the stock is loose and wiggles more than I would like up and down. Way more than on the Mod 1. Maybe someone that know more than I can help me fix this...
Ok well I finally got a chance to sight it in and test it out on Sunday. I don't have pictures of the gun but it's the stock set up with the Geissele DMR trigger pack, a Spuhr mount and a Viper PST 2-10x44. I also loaded up 50 cases with Nosler 77's, 24.8gr Varget (some might say high but I had success with a similar load in the Mod 1 with no pressure signs), PMC brass? (can't remember now, it was some once fired that a friend gave me), and CCI primers. All groups were shot off a bench with sand bags. I had intended for this be a practice session so I could enter the gas gun 100 yard contest. I frankly didn't have high expections this being the first time out.
The first 5 I shot at 25 yards to sight it in and to get a little bit of feel for the gun. It took another two sighters at 100 to get on and then I shot 7, 5 shot groups starting with the shoot-n-see on the bottom left and then from the bottom right around counter clockwise. Here is how I measured the groups.
1. .706
2. .840 (could have been impressive <1/2 if not for "that" one
3. 1.260
4. .854
5. 1.127
6. .714
7. .778
6.279/7=.897 average
Needless to say, I was pretty shocked at how well this turned out. Especially for the first time. I think it would have done well in the contest if had followed all the rules (six groups, clean target)... I do have pictures of the target if anybody can help me post them.
Thanks and ask away if you have any questions.
