Someone just gave me a Kestrel 4000.
I know it's not a 5700, but will I be able to get any useful data from it?
My range has no cell service, so I have to get my Strelok data from 10-15 miles away.

For that price? Heck yeah it's still useful, it'll give you all the pertinent environmental data for a ballistic program like wind and density altitude. I would use lithium batteries and make sure not to store it for any length of time with the batteries in it and you should be good to go. If you use alkaline batteries and store the unit with those batteries in it you run the risk of it damaging the unit if the batteries leak since the circuit board isn't sealed off from the battery compartment.

Mine is still working after at least 10 years. Had to replace the wind impeller a couple of years ago but that's it. Gives you all the pertinent data you need for your ballistic program. Like Trigger Monkey said best to use lithium batteries in it.

Definitely use lithium batteries. But it still works and gives you all the functions it did when new. You don’t need latest and treated to shoot well. It will do just fine.

So, do I set the altitude on the barometer screen to 0 for station pressure?
And how do you calibrate the humidity, it was showing about 30 higher than Strelok.
