I was shooting the Sporting Rifle Match at Raton last weekend, which prompts this question. If you've ever shot there, you know certain firing positions are completely surrounded by trees, so the wind can be howling downrange, but you'll never be able to get wind speed at the firing line. You'll also know the practice targets are at, let's say due west, but stage 1 is north northwest, stage 8 is northwest, etc. If I get wind data where it's open, say the practice range or stage 10, is there a way to adjust the wind direction automatically when I point the Kestrel downrange?
Like let's say the practice range is 270°, wind is full value south to north, so as I'm facing the targets and lock their direction into the Kestrel and lock the wind in at 9 o'clock. If I move to a different stage where I'm now shooting at 315° and lock that into the Kestrel, will the Kestrel automatically change the wind direction to 7:30? Or is there a way to manually change the direction? I'm not trying to depend on it, since I still glass the mirage, but I'd like to get a rough idea.
