I am looking at purchasing my first Kestrel, and want to get peoples thoughts on what they liked and didn't like about a couple different models.
I am looking at the 5700, Hornady 5700, and 5700 Elite. I realize the Hornady model is not released yet, but considering I primarily shoot Hornady ammo, it is my current top choice. My primary use for the Kestrel will be for hunting, as I do not compete in any rifle matches.
Any advice on what I should consider between the different models, or pros and cons with your experiences with them would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tre,

I have the 5700 elite, and I am interested in the Hornady version too.

the 5700 Elite will have a couple of features the Hornady does not have, the ability to store many guns (30 vs 3 on the Hornady), and the range card.

As you stated if for hunting and only using Hornady ammo, you should be good to go, and save some money too.

Thanks for the info @seansmd
Out of curiosity, what is the range card feature?

I ended up pre-ordering the Hornady kestrel, and luckily the code 15HDS still works for 15% off, bringing the price down to $425

Instead of having to scroll to each distance individually for data, the range card can give you a long continuous chart of distances and their data. On the full AB Elite, you can also scroll between drop, 2 wind speed corrections, mover lead, etc. from right on the range card.

Personally, I find the range card to be very useful. I'll also add that I would personally avoid any Kestrel model that has ballistics functions and does NOT have Link - The bluetooth functions are invaluable for updating the Kestrel and managing/building profiles. Without bluetooth, you're going to have to buy the $60 optical cable to do software updates from a PC/Mac and use the same for building profiles (unless you want to build them manually on the Kestrel).
