I'm looking at getting a kestrel 5700 with silver. They have tha AB version and a preorder for the Hornady 4dof. Up until now I've used the shooter app so I have no experience with AB Or 4dof with are the pros and cons between them? I'm shooting everything from 17HMR to 375 Cheytec improved.

I've never used 4dof, but my Kestrel has the AB solver in it. Shooting Prime ammo, the data was spot on at just over 1200 yards when I trued the velocity.

Now that 4dof is out, and almost $200 cheaper than AB, you might want to give it a go.

Go check out the thread on the Kestrel/4dof combo as there is some good info there.

Also do some searching on the 4dof solver for a smart device as I'm sure there will be plenty of info to help make a decision.

If you have Shooter you have used a version of our Engine. The core of Shooter uses an engine we built specifically for them.

The difference will be feature sets, library, and connectivity to start.

Is there any advantages to one over the other? Im asking because i am leaning more towards ab and i have been using ab for quite a few years on my phone so should i stick with it because i know ab or is there an advantage to the 4dof that ab doesnt have

The AB Kestrel will work with other products with the AB Protocol like the Sig BDX system. More of which are on the way. The AB Kestrel also has a library of over 800 Bullets, and the AB Connect system. Currently the 4DOF app has around 90 bullets. AB Connect means that once it is tested in the lab it can be sent to the Kestrel within minutes. No app or coding updates required. The AB Kestrel also has the multi-target screen, and can hold 30 profiles (vs 3). As well as some other advantages.

The AB Version has been very consistent for me. I am still using the 4500, but if / when I get 5700 I'll also go with the AB. I think the 4dof phone app works VERY well with the Hornady bullets, so if you use them that's the route I'd go.

I love Hornady factory ammo and their bullets, but for ballistics I am going to stick with AB there solvers have been spot on for me out to 1000yds. I feel like they also stay on top of bullet updates just about every time I open a app with AB in it there are new updates for bullets.

Man you must be the most unlucky person in the shooting community when it comes to Hornady ammo because I and most people I know have nothing but great results with Hornady ammo I find your experience to be an absolute abnormality. What factory ammo do you have success with?

I mostly reload my own now i use to buy federal lots. And ya i know im unlucky with hornady i have had 308 168 group bigger than a basket ball at 75 yards, i have had 204 key hole with 2 different lots and for some reason my 223 has unusually high pressure signs with hornady bullets but nosler with same load is far from pressure signs
