I am now at around 2850 round according to my log book for my KMW 260rem.
The rifle has seen 2 years of hard competition use. NCPPRC Monthly Long Range, Steel Matches, and Practice Sessions, 2 Sac Valley NO BULLs, 2 SCPRC Events, 1 Las Vegas 2 day event, and 2 AZ TPRC events.
Barrel Specs:
Krieger 4 groove
8.5 twist
#10 MTU
26"
Load Specs:
47.0gn of H4831SC
139gn Scenar
F210M
Rem Brass
OAL to Ogive is 2.240 (have not changed since the barrel was new)
This load gave me about 2800 to 2825FPS. It was safe from 40 degrees to 100 degrees.
On Saturday I shot a 5 shot group @ 100yards that measured almost an inch. That's pathetic for what this rifle use to do.
During yesterdsays long range match I was + 1.0 to 1.3 mils from 800 - 1000 yards from my regular dope for the conditions. I ended up at 9.3mils from a 100yard zero to center up at 1000. Even with the lost in elevation/velocity the rifle grouped very well at distance.
I think it is safe to say to expect about 2600 good rounds out of a 260rem before the performance starts to taper off. This rifle was no safe queen and I shot the shit out of it for almost 2 years now in competition. Those going to this cartridge might want to start planning on barrel purchases and rebarreling jobs with their smith of choice.
Since I am done with big matches for 2010 I will limp on this barrel and see when the accruacy will go away along with the velocity. Inside 600 she is still rock solid. Going to push it to 3000 rounds and see what happens from there. Shoot my KMW on the steel matches inside 600 and my Newman 308win on the LR matches.
