I have some screwed up knees. Looking for recommendations of pad inserts for my Vertx pants. It is looking like I will get at least one new knee installed this year and I have been told that I will definitely need some cushion to kneel down after that is put in.

PS: Anyone make a tactical knee chassis? AICS maybe? How about something that will take Viperskins? If I can't run like the wind I should at least be able to lean up against a wall and look cool.

any type of foam should do the trick, in the Marines guys would cut up some iso-mat and put it in there for padding.
There is also the standard option of regular knee pads that have wrap around straps.
If you want to get real fancy you can trace the pocket hole for the Crye knee pads and cut it into your other pants, then you can just move the Crye pads from one pair of pants to another.

5.11 pants and newer military uniforms, the ACU's and such, they have pockets for pads. They also make these pads. The military ones can be found new in the plastic at surplus stores. They're replaceable and not too bad for everyday stuff I guess. Seem like neoprene foam about .25" thick. Not a lot of padding at all, but better than nothing I guess.

Cutting up puss pad and putting that in there would be more effective, but you're gonna have to sew it in and it'll be bulkier. I've seen it used on ghillie suits with cut up duffel bags sewn over that.

Mostly everyone wore the skater knee pads and some wore the elbow pads too. Usually down around the ankles and wrists until/unless needed. Some wore no elbows, both knees or one knee, it depended on the guy. That was the way to go for taking a knee for long periods of time though.

All depends on what you'll use it most for.

Neoprene never lasts long on my left. I use the black hawk hellfire with the hard plastic. Holding up well and they are cheap. Little stiff at first, but after broken in are comfortable and don't walk on you. I use them on concrete and stone and they work great. Over kill if you are on other terrain. Good luck with the knee swap.

I don't like anything with a hard surface. When I rest my arm on my knees I don't want my arm rolling around of the hard spot. Basically like bone to bone contact. The mouse pads are cheap so I replace them pretty often.

Go to lowes Home Depot and buy the $4.99 foam knee pads remove the Velcro strap. They work great in the SKD BDU's. They are very light, i can't tell if there in or not without looking
