Kowa 880 / TE-80XW (35x)

Does anyone have any experience with the fixed 35x (TE-80XW) eye piece?

Perhaps in comparison with the 25-60x?

Anyone have any opinions, or general observations of which they'd like to share?

Thanks.

I got one, sold my te-11wz eyepiece to fund it. this is for my 884.

i just didn’t find myself zooming a whole bunch on the 25-60x eyepiece so I figured why not go with a happy medium with a whole bunch more FOV.

I have the 1.6x magnifier, so if i need the extra mag i can just screw that on.

the FOV is impressive, almost overwhelming, i’m honestly not sure how much is even usable because you almost have to move your eye to see the outer edges.

i like it alot, but if i had to do it over i probably would have just held onto my 25-60x, for what i do (long range varmint glassing) i don’t see any sort of distinct advantage.

if you live near PA you are welcome to come check mine out.

Thanks Sigma.... I live in Louisiana.

I'll probably hang on to the 25-60... But I have some other inconsequential spotters I could sell, to help lesson the impact... Thanks for taking the time...

Have you noticed any 'improvement' in the quality of the sight picture, other than the FOV? Resolution? Color fidelity? Brightness? Does it 'cut thru' mirage better?
I have not noticed an improvement in IQ as far as resolution of a specific object like a target at the same magnification compared to my 25-60X eyepiece or the 25X LER eyepiece. I do get the impression that the image is brighter at the same magnification but that's probably due to the larger FOV brightening the entire image, so that translates to an improvement in IQ.

I'm not even why you would expect an eyepiece to have any effect on mirage or its impact on the IQ. The mirage does its "work" on the image between the objective lens and the prism, after that, it's just magnifying whatever damage was done. I believe the fluorite crystal glass of the objective lens forms an image that is less affected by mirage compared to ED glass and especially non-ED glass. (Super ED glass is so close to pure fluorite crystal glass, the difference is imperceptible.) That was the main reason for choosing the Kowa 883 in the first place and I was not disappointed.

I believe that because there's more pieces of glass between the eyeball, and the atmosphere; with a zoom.....as opposed to a fixed eyepiece... There's nothing scientific, or proven to that theory; just supposition.

Yeah, that's not how it works.

Anyway, I was playing with my new Smartphone adapter on my Kowa 883 and took these two pictures. The first one is with the TE-80XW 35X and the second one is with the TE-11WZ 25-60X eyepiece set at 35X (as best I could.)

Notice the size of the circles. The day was pretty overcast and rapidly variable. The pictures are 20 minutes apart, and the Sun had come out more for the second one.
