I would like to know what type of Krieger barrels you guys have. I just called them to talk about making me a barrel. Here is what I want, I want an 18" barrel, with a .875 gas block and .850 muzzle. They said the DO NOT cut any AR-10 barrels under 20", and they do not make any custom grinds on the journals. Only the M110 service barrels have the .875 gas block and .850 journal. They only cut a .937 gas block and .900 OR .812 muzzle. It says all over their site, UP TO 26", I figured that mean they make them short too. Am I just wrong, or does Krieger make shorter .308 AR barrels?

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

I am running 2 AR10 barrels from them. Both are 24", .936 at the gas block and .900 or .920 at the muzzle. Both are shooters. Call back if you don't feel confident in the answer you got and ask to speak with someone else. I vaguely remember asking them about this before, and I think they referred to it having something to do with proper cycling of the bolt, but don't hold me to that. There are other companies that make quality AR10 barrels. Give them a call and see if they will cut it shorter for you. If you are set on getting a Krieger, then get the shortest barrel they will cut for you and have a local smith shorten it. Did you ask why they don't go under 20" when you talked with them?

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

I did ask, but the guy I talked to, dont remember his name, just seemed confused why I wanted something other than what they offered. I called Lothar too, and they will do whatever the hell I want. They said their AR-10 barrels are complete custom to order. He said I have to make the list of what I want, all specs included, the send the list with a check and my barrel will be made. I looked at Fulton the other day, I am probably wrong, but I thought they went with DPMS style with everything and dropped Armalite all together. I like Fultons side charging handles. I know the barrel is the heart of any gun, right now my stock barrel is being cut down to 18". I am going to see how that works out. If I dont like the results, I am going to need help getting some specs together to get me a Lothar barrel.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

try using google and plugging in lr308 barrels or ar10 barrels. i think that if your going to have it made, DPMS or ARmalite wont matter as they will just have you send in your bolt so they can set the headspace to that bolt. i cant be sure, but i think you could use either barrel in either brand, except the headspace would be different, but i cant swear to that.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

They have a limited set of CNC programs written to make complete AR10 barrels. This is not a "problem" per se. So does everyone else that makes bolt-on barrels.

If you want something else, go buy it somewhere else or have a blank from them contoured and turned into a complete AR10 barrel by someone else.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

Now somoene complalined by my fulton complaint elsewhere but this IS a case where I'd say go see Fulton..

Starting to think that an M110 Build would be fun, those look like a hoot.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

9H is correct, unless you plan on ordering a lot of barrels, Krieger if it's not one of their program barrels, won't do your custom barrel job. I spun my wheels for weeks with those guys in a similar situation and that was what it all came down to. I wound up getting a Krieger blank and having one of the custom shops turn the blank, and in the end I got what I wanted.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

So when you order a blank from Krieger, is it just that, a tube of steel rifled in the caliber of your choice, then you take it to someone else and that grind it down to the contour of your choice? Am I understanding that correctly?

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

I've been inside the Krieger office a half dozen times. They have two full time order staff, Mike and someone else. If I buy from Krieger again, I will only deal with Mike. I ordered an AR-10 barrel from them and had them install my JP brake which needed to be timed. I picked it up in person and unfortunately dealt with the other guy. The brake was timed about 30 degrees from level. I pointed it out and he said the gunsmith did it to counteract the torque created from the rifling twist. I made them fix it but the smith tightened it so tight that it left soime 1/8th inch deep dents from the wrench. Make sure you talk to Mike.

goat head, if you come down to that option, rock creek has good blanks. there are a number of places that can get you a blank and places that you can send a blank to be turned. go back a few pages and there are a bunch of 308 ar threads and a few on barrels specifically that list options. click my name and view my posts and you will find alot of them

I have always had luck with their barrels, but what you describe above is typical. You cannot clone the skills and dedication of the guy that made the company great, and scale the business up, most of the times.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

The two names to know there are Mike on the front end and Todd on the customer service end. If you have an issue with their product or work, it will end up in Todd's hands to resolve technically after you send it in for them to evaluate.

I met with Mike H at SHOT. He's the perfect guy for the job he has there at Krieger.

Re: Krieger Barrels Issues

My blank went directly from Krieger to my custom shop, so I never inspected it. As I understand it, blank is just a tube with bore cut, (i.e., krieger's are rifle cut) but needs chambering and contouring and all the other finish work. Hope this helps.
