This is my first AR-10 build and I have no personal experience with these barrels. I have heard great things about the accuracy of the Krieger and great things about the reliability of the Noveske. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Noveske's are Pac-Nor barrels and are well respected. RND uses Pac-Nor barrels in his builds and those are some sick rifles - very accurate. That being said, I think there are few people who would say that there's nothing better than a Krieger - maybe as good, but not better. There are soooo many options when ordering a Krieger, and it needs to fit your shooting needs. If they're the same price, then I'd always go Krieger.

I must admit that I do have a Noveske 5.56 upper that is stupid accurate and basically the most accurate 5.56 that I've ever owned. Regardless, there are some other people that I trust very much who would recommend Krieger - so I heed their wisdom!

If you want an earful, talk to Mike Bosley at Ballistic Resources. He's shot a whole lot of barrels for many years.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

If it was my decision it would come down to availability. But, then again I am shooting the m118lr which is what the Noveskes are chambered for. Krieger may give you more options, but you may have to wait if it is a custom order.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

To throw a wrench in your decision: have you looked into Lothar Walther barrels? LW50 steel, 7.62 NATO Match or .308 Win Match chambers, your custom contour, gas block diameter that you specify, gas system length that you want, twist that you specify... Cheaper than both the above options, that is if you have a Armalite pattern rifle. Includes a new bolt head and barrel extension, 4-6 week timeframe.

Or the Noveske 21" barrels will be available in two weeks, not sure if Krieger's are stocked or custom turned as ordered... Yet another option would be Black Hole barrels, polygonal rifling and cheaper than anyone else.

Not trying to confuse you on choices at all...

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Krieger barrels are cut rifled Noveske/Pac Nor are button rifled. Krieger is probably the most used Benchrest comp barrel made.
The AR10 barrels being sold by some are Criterion barrels which are button rifled by a division of Krieger, they are not the same as a cut rifled Krieger. If you buy directly from Krieger they will be a premium cut rifled barrel.
If I put a 1/2MOA Guarantee on a rifle it will be made from a Krieger or Bartlein barrel blank. If the barrel isn't straight it doesn't matter who's name is on it, it isn't going to shoot.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Don't know about the Noveske barrels, but in 30 caliber, Kriegers are probably the finest barrel that you can use in the LR game. I've used several, and they all have been hammers.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Consensus seems to be that both are solid. I own a Noveske and have shot 1/2 MOA all day. You'll be happy with either. Take a look at Noveske's new 6.5 Creed barrel. Might be worth a look if you want a 6.5 caliber.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

I have a Noveske on my .308 AR10 and the barrel is not the limiting factor on the accuracy of that platform.

I wish I could say I can shoot 1/2 MOA groups all day long with it, but the truth is I am just not that accurate with that platform.

I can shoot minute of head all day long with it fast enough to keep the barrel smoking and never had a failure. I only feed it top shelf ammo though.

The chamber in the Noveske is tighter than my factory Remington.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Good stuff. Thanks for all the replies. Thinking about sending krieger my bolt and have them chamber it. I can put the Badger FTE on it and an armalite gas block.

Re: Krieger or Noveske.

Rainier Arms just released some ar 308 barrrels. Pricing is damn near attractive although I have been saving for a Noveske barrel.

Damn it NInja PIrtle. who is that chick?
