L & S Ultra Scope - Any info?

Purchased an L & S Ultra fixed 16x40.

Emailed Leupold and they advised this a former government owned scope probably sold off in government auction. This is NOT stolen - the reason I sent the serial number in.

Has M1 turrets, etched reticle, and is side focus.

Basically, a better Mark 4 because of the etched reticle.

Anybody have an idea of value? Any idea of what this was used on?

Magua - agree. Currently on a custom caliber that I built to achieve 22/250 velocity from a 222 Magnum case (a REALLY deep 223 AI reamer using 222 Magnum brass (204 Ruger necked up)).

It was probably on a Barrett; and most of the ultra's had wire reticles . The mark 4's are etched.

Leupold indicated different info for the reticle, based off of the serial number.

If it was a former Navy M1A Ultra 16x, as it sounds, it had the reticle done by Dick Thomas at Premier Reticles. It was most likely on a 300WM or possibly a 50, but I would bet a 300. Most, if not all, of the Navy mildot 16x's saw service with SEAL rifles.

I, too, have one of these. Started having elevation adjustment problem, emailed Leupold with serial #. Response was basically same as yours....with the addition of "not covered under warranty" because
it is a "glued" scope. Just FYI.

I have heard or thought I saw an ULTRA with "correct" direction adjustments. Clockwise = right and up...is this one of them?

Early Ultras had wire/football shaped dots. They are glued together and not best choice because if wire breaks, good chance not able to repair.

Later Ultras had etched reticles, still glued together and tough as nails.

Even later had etched rets and where able to be taken apart if problem happened

I used an Ultra almost everyday from early 1980s into 2000 without a single problem

Is there a list of serial numbers or years of mfg. that identify which Ultras were wire reticle or etched and glued or not glued, or do you have to call L&S ?
