A tube is the heart of a Night Vision Monocular/PVS14.GEN3 and GEN3+ 18MM TUBES are sealed Units and drop in the body OF MONOCULAR OR pvs14'S and other types using a simple retainer Ring and some Purge Of Nitrogen"THERE ARE WAYS AROUND Purge IF NOT AVAILABLE TO YOU",Just keep the lens's clean keep the dust Out.
I Know To some The IDEA of a NVD inside Is Mind blowing..Really guys there is no MAGIC AND the hard stuff is DONE ALREADY inside, there Sealed Tube Assembly for Christ sake...Its easy all the parts are pre built and its 10 Minutes to build one.Dont be Fooled Into the Bullshit that NASA suites and Hand select techs must assemble these. Now, AQUILA's Raptors and CLIP ons and such are a Diffrent ballgame!
If I can help any of you with your home Builds with advice just Send me Message its free.Building your own is not always an Option or worth the worry that you did it right,Lets face It some Of use just are better at this than others and that Fine,Nothing wrong with that.
True Performance is measured In the Results of use,I do not Agree with some DATA sheets. I questioned some to be true. If All DATA sheet Numbers ARE true and the DATA sheets I Question are True Numbers of performance derived from EQUIPMENT/TEST and are In FACT true,I Can say there is lack of an EXPERIENCED Hands on TEST that should be performed compare against DATA SHEET. However DATA sheets do have Information to a tubes Performance and overall Can help in the measure Of the Performance of a Tube. There are Sleepers out there though!
WARNING
I was at the Sink or SWIM University for only One Day..
This is a simple to understand list of what these DATA sheets tell me,it is not perfect in tech.Maybe I am not correct on the way this works? But I will pick My tube and if you Know better you pick yours and lets go do My testing and see what you got..
FACTS are what works for me and How I use these Numbers when I have 40 Tubes To check Out against each other. SOME tubes are sleepers and blow your Mind if You LUST after DATA sheets You may be missing out?
"PS" = Photo cathode Sensitivity
will fill in Later
"FOM" Figure Of Merit
This is derived from The Signal to Noise multiply x the center Resolution
Example You have 25 signal to noise and 64lpi center resolution 25x64=1600 That "1600FOM"
This is Two of the Numbers with an overall performance VALUE that give a GOOD idea of a Tubes performance. There are Other Performance Numbers That matter as well.
FOM is good sales Tool if the Numbers are Hi,But Don't get hung up only on FOM,Its very possible Tubes with Lower FOM numbers could outperform tubes with Higher FOM numbers.
"LPI"
Its Just that simple,Tube Read Lines in test,45,57,64,72 are common numbers, seeing 57LPI for example may in fact almost see 64LPI or 57 may have been its Limit, the Outer image is tested and could have a Lower LPI than center resalution.Aviator tubes go a step father, they rate Center and outer,But also between,They will have 3 SETS on LPI numbers. These Tubes are used to Fly Aircraft so Resolution is King on aviation.
HI-LIGHT LPI
In Hi Light the LPI is taken again to measure How the Tube DOES when it REAL Bright or Hi Light .
"SN" Signal to Noise
This is the SPARKLE SNOW in the IMAGE Dark conditions this is Pronounced,Higher this Number is less SNOW you will see when Its straining from low Light,The "snow sparkles" NOISE so its called does Not block the Image for me I can see threw SN as Long as the Tube is a performer its Fine.
I have Noticed L3 tubes with LOWER SN numbers suffer much less than ITT with equal SN.
"EBI"
This is the Point at which the tube will stop seeing an Image when the Light is less than than it can operate in..I call it GREEN OUT..
Lower EBI numbers are Better when you are in very dark coinditions.I have seen Hi EBI numbers make some Stupid Clear tubes In Normal Light to Hi light,They they always loose To lower EBI when its dark enough.
"HALO"
you can see in the Picks,Look at the street Lights in the back ground, BLOOM is what you see around lights and its called HALO,Larger HALO Numbers= larger HALO..The Larger HALO numbers also increase the Tubes Recoil Damage Resistance,The Larger HALO will Also Blum Your AIMING lasers and the DOT will seem to be Larger with Larger HALO.
I Will do more later...Stay safe and Don't Think your in the Dark I am just a PM away...
