Gunsmithing LA vs SA

Re: LA vs SA

If you're using a single shot action then an SA vs. LA advantage comes from the SA being a stiffer action.

If you're planning to shoot a repeater then the LA allows the long bullets to be seated out to chase the lands and increase powder capacity while still feeding in the mags.

Re: LA vs SA

No need to go LA to seat bullets out long! Glen Seekins is almost done with his WSM DBM and the mags have a internal OAL of over 3.16"!!! Yes 3.16" OAL out of a short action!

Re: LA vs SA

Wow, 3.16" from a SA? Did he grind out .36" or so from the aft edge of the feed ramp?

That's how you get LA mauser actions to feed mag length rounds. I don't like the idea since it removes material from one of the load bearing regions of the locking lugs.

You need to mill out the rear of the mag port and the bolt stop... I am not 100% the exact amount, but basically you take out the ADL trigger guard screw hole and the bolt stop...

Ah, makes sense now. He's taking it out of the rear of the action instead. Thanks for explaining that to me.
