A mom on the bus spanks(barely swats)her kid after he is running around the bus aisle. The man behind her threatens to call child protection services so she calls her brother and cousins and this happens.

I agree with spanking (hell I am thankful my dad tanned my hide when I got out of line), but damn this is taking your opinion a bit far. I guess the lesson here is myob.

on a serious note, what can we say about people who do this? This isn't something I feel that society can 'fix'. They opened up on innocent people in a bus. They didn't even board the bus to find 'the guy'.

Where and what, in North America, can happen to a family, where the members think this is what's acceptable behaviour? If they grew up in a war torn hell hole and were conditioned to see and deal death everyday then I could understand, but damn, they're not, they haven't been (I don't care how bad the ghetto is, they didn't look starved, dirty and bedraggled).

I suppose the silver lining is that the mum at least disciplined her child...

Laws vary on what assault and battery are classified and defined as, from locality to locality, but mostly assault is the intent projected on to the individual harmed, and battery is when a person is struck. That's the legalise that I learned anyway. Hopefully her butt has a crapload of more charges than just that.

With a defense attorney likes her's, coming up with that interpretation, then she is going away for a LONG time.
