Gunsmithing laminated stock painting

I got a stock on the way from a fellow hide member for my SPS-T to replace the hogue stock thats on it now. I wanted to Stain it to a dark wood or black color to keep the semi-tactical look. Do any of you know if stain or anything will stick to a laminated stock?

should stick, as long as you sand down to the wood. the different woods may soak stain differently though.

but why cover up the lamination? i understand the tactical look, but depending on the stock might be worth some $$ to just sell it and buy a different one. I got good money for the stock that originally came with my 223 (VLS i think?)

I bought this stock for $120 and a new B&C or other synthetic is well over that amount. This stock os off a VLS rifle. I have one like it on my 6mm and it is very nice looking, I just wanted to keep the dark look on the tac rifle. I am hoping to get some ebony stain and still keep the wood grain showing through.

A laminated stock can still look semi tactical , knock the finish back and refinish with a matte clear

here is my old 260 that had a Russo A5L stock on it

and another A5L on a varmint rifle , it was finished in a gloss though , I realy liked the color of the brown and black though , I think it would look realy good on a tactical stick

I know they look a little cheesy, but I'd consider a camo gun sock. Protects the wood and resale will be better. TM
