Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

Re: Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

Doesn't the Remington .308 UBR or UBH or UBsomething, have a small primer pocket?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm sure people would rather have back their 300 WM brass, than a small pocketed .308.

I never had the opportunity to try any Lapua 300WM brass, but I would much rather them make it again than create some bullshit mutant 308 marketing scam.

Re: Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

This is a good thing.

If I weren't heavily invested in large primers and have a healthy stock of .308 brass I'd be pretty pleased with this announcement.

This is another place with the BR guys have served as R&D for us: going with a small primer pocket improves accuracy and allows you to load the round hotter. This is why the relativly small 6.5x47 can be loaded up to a level near par with .260 and 6.5 creedmoor. Or so I've read.

Personally I'd rather have .300wm lapua brass back too but I think a small primer .308 is a nice move on their part.

+1 maybe in 4000 + rounds I will try some.

Very interesting! I wouldnt mind giving it a try. I just wish they would get off their lazy ass and make some 7WSM brass!

Re: Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

hell they can put me in for about 1500 new brass. I have tried the old .308 BR brass and liked it.

Plus Adam took care of the problems I had with lapua brass so I will stay with them.

IMHO
all of things broke with standard 308

small primer aint gonna fix em either

Thats why i now shoot x47 exclusively

Re: Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

Can anyone explain the theory behind why small primer .308 is more accurate and you can load it hotter?

I just ordered about 15K LR primers - so it will be awhile before I get around to trying anything new.

Re: Lapua Small Primer 308 Brass coming

Sounds interesting... but I already bought 500 lapua cases for my 308 (back when it was $50 for a 100ct, and I thought that was a steep price.

"This is another place with the BR guys have served as R&D for us: going with a small primer pocket improves accuracy and allows you to load the round hotter."

I believe the better description is that SR primers in a .308-size case is alleged to improve accuracy, and lets reloaders hot-rod above spec pressures farther and for more firings before loosening the primer pockets.

Only time I ever stretched a primer pocket was with .30 Carbine, lead bullets, a light crimp, and cases that were so long, the mouths pinched into the throat. Machine marks from the chamber on the brass, ejector marks, and loose pockets.

If you loosen a primer pocket in a regular .308 case, you're either way above pressure, or have some unreasonably soft brass.
