Anyone have any experience or info on the LAR Grizzly? I've been looking for one for years and I recently got one on a decent deal. More importantly though I got one in great condition. Its one of the last 1000 made and I got it from the original owner who fired less than 60 rds through it. I just fired 60 rds through it the other day, and It's a really nice gun. For anyone who just stumbled upon this and doesn't know It's basically a big 1911 chambered in 45 win mag.

I've had a few high end 1911s and sold all of them just because couldn't find a place for them, so I sold them all. I still think they're the nicest guns ever made though and I've always wanted to really do one up. I mean full blown engravings, plating's, and everything. I could never justify it though because they just never felt special enough to dump the money into. I feel like the grizzly could be that gun, but I'm worried about long term reliability since this will basically become a heirloom quality gun when I'm done with it. Basically does anyone with any real experience know anything about where I can get replacement parts nowadays? It's perfectly fine right now, but if I'm about to drop a few thousand dollars on it I want to know it will run forever.

On the other side of it, if I don't keep it I will probably be selling it just so I don't give into the temptation down the line lol. Does anyone know the value on these guns? Mine in particular is damn flawless, parkerized, and chambered in 45 win mag with a 6.5" barrel. I don't have the original box or anything like that. So what are they worth nowadays all things considering? Anyway thanks for any help guys. These guns stopped being made long before I could own a gun, so any info will be greatly apricated.

I've been a lar grizzly fan for alot of years, I've even taken a couple of deer with mine. 44 magnum ballistics in a 1911 handgun is the shit. The 6.5 inch barrel grizzly in 45 win mag was the most common model made but that dosent take away from it being a great gun. Parts and mags can be hard to find. Gunbroker is good place to look and also some years ago LAR still had some new old stock parts for the grizzly. Those parts may be long gone, im not sure. I doubt you ever shoot it enough to warrant needing replacement parts. They are built like tanks and some of the mundane parts can be sourced from standard 1911s. Id say your grizzly is worth around 1200 bucks. Maybe more depending on the buyer. Most people dont even know of their existence you may get more on gunbroker but then you have to pay them the 15% or whatever their cut is. The 10 inch slide versions are worth quite a bit, as are some of the other mark models of grizzly that arent as common. Id like to get my hands on a 50ae version some day. I think the idea of a semiautomatic silhouette gun based on a 1911 wasn't thought out very well, but I'm glad they produced it.

Hi, and thanks for commenting, it's always nice to meet other people to talk with guns about. That's pretty awesome that you've actually hunted with yours. Only part I've read can be weak is the extractor, but EWK arms makes a solid milled one so I probably be buying that just because who knows how long small companies will make unique parts like that.

Yikes I hope its worth more than $1200. I paid considerably more than that lol. I originally wanted the 50 AE version too, but the prices are just outrages. Plus I've been told compared to the desert eagle its a monster of a recoil. I quite like the desert eagle as a stupid over the top gun. So I'm happy with the 45 win mag grizz for a more practical obnoxious gun lol.

On gunbroker you see a lot of the more common grizzlies with a buy it now price of $1600 bucks but they usually sell for 1400 or so and then they take their 15% or so. Thats how I got $1200. If you can find someone that actually knows what it is and wants one you may get 1500 outa one. It’s just hard bc most people don’t know they were made and if you don’t reload the ammo for the 45 win mag versions can be hard to find.

I’d love to find an original in the box nickel plated 50ae version that was factory compensated. I’ve only ever seen one in my life and they wanted $2700 dollars. I’d also like to have one if each of the caliber conversions they made. I had one in 357mag years ago and like a fool sold it.
