LaRue Match Uppers ??

Kicking around the idea of putting together a gas gun to play with for PRS and maybe a DMR style match. A local range I shoot at has a PRS match once a month that only goes out to 800yds. Mostly this is just a fun gun but accuracy has to be there. What’s the general consensus on the LaRue Match grade uppers? $750 seems like a better deal than trying to put one together myself. ( I have built many ) It also has what I believe is a great Qaulity upper and rail. I want to stay .223 because I have everything to load for it and lots of qaulity components. Thanks in advance!

I have noticed those same uppers for sale at a good price and have thought about picking one up, too. I am interested to see experience with them.

I purchased one of the $750 Match Uppers this Spring and put it on an LMT Lower with UBR Gen1 stock with Gisselle National Match trigger.
The photo shows a H-Lux scope but at the first rnage ssion the Creedmore mount was loose to the Pic rail and we replaced it with a Leupold Service Rifle scope and mount.
The LaRue is a 5.56 chamber.
I ordered a White Oak upper chambered for 223 Wylde, 20” Shilen 750 barrel and the upper alone is over 7#s.
The H-Lux Service Rifle Scope went on to the that upper.
We have only two range sessions with the two uppers and I will post our results for 100 yds.
Both uppers functioned flawlessly.
The LaRue was shot with 55gr Win White Box and Black Hills MK262 with the White Oak shot with Win 223 White box and Norma 77gr Match.
Both uppers are quality products and if shooting from just a bench, I would favor the White Oak but if standing the shorter (16”) LaRue because of the weight.

Gas guns and PRS go go together like Tuna Fish and Grape Jelly. There is a reason no one shoots it. If you want to shoot PRS, build/buy an open gun.

With that being said, the Larue uppers are very good for the money. Really hard to beat IMO. WOA uppers are also a good budget alternative that shoot very well.

That said, I have not seen a bad experience with LaRue equipment. Their Stealth uppers with super secret John Galt steel barrels are great shooters. Triggers are pretty decent as well. Love their rails. Not real fond of the Stealth 2.0 which takes a few design shortcuts but has a nice connection to the rai.

I got one from the 1st batch, it shoots 75gr hornady bulk reloads <.5 but anything lighter ~1moa.
Mine is over gassed, I stepped up to a H3 buffer but did not like how it felt. I then swapped out just the bolt carrier with the bootleg adjustable carrier and back to a carbine buffer and I love it now. A bit disappointed I had to spend more money on it but I'm sure it would've ran fine as it was.

Shooting PRS with a gas gun is as retarded as Mark Larue is a douche, but the match uppers are solid. I picked one up and it’s a hammer and extremely well built. Not sure how they’re making this level of quality at the price they’re selling them but I’m certainly not going to complain. Buy with confidence.

They have increased the price and lowered availability.

The UU Kits in small frame were $900 annd $1200 for Large frame in choice of caliber. Hell of a deal even if you add their lowers for a full gun.

You cant even buy the UU kit anymore and the just the upper is $800. Still not a bad deal for a quality upper but plan on replacing the carrier like mentioned with a bootleg. It will really soften the recoil up on the 6.5G version.

Build a 7000 series 80% lower and have the best of all worlds

Nothing wrong with shooting a gas gun in PRS. It sounds like you just want to do it for fun so who cares if the guys shooting 30# rifles and carrying 50# of gear think you’re gas gun is dumb lol. Just make sure you’re proficient enough to do it safely and go have fun.

A lot of ppl have a hard time shooting gas guns well and it’s definitely harder to build an accurate gas gun vs bolt gun so some think they aren’t as accurate as bolt guns. Sure it’s hard to shoot .3s but it’s really not that hard to shoot .7-.9 and that’s plenty for PRS.

I can’t say if the Larue barre would get it done but the good part is that the handguard attaches to the upper, not to the barrel nut. It’s not the only one like that but to me that’s 100% a requirement. The last thing you want is positional pressure on the barrel nut throwing shots and having no idea if it’s you, bad dope, wind, etc… Ours are built on Mega MKM/Maten frames and they’re rigid as hell. I have no proof that it matters but it’s nice to completely eliminate that variable.

I would say if your going to do it, do it with a 6/6.5 mm. 223 is going to put you at much more of a disadvantage than the fact that it’s a gas gun. Dies are cheap. You really don’t need the $300 die set to make good ammo. I can load .5 moa rounds with Lee dies the exact same as I can with high end dies. We have both and they can put out the same ammo if you know what you’re doing.
