I am in the process of planning an "SPR" build. It won't be a spec build by any means, I don't care if the equipment comes from the original manufacturers, or if everything matches, etc, I really just like the look of the gun.

I want to end up with a sub MOA gun. I hope to convince my wife to come shooting with me, this is going to be "her gun."

The two options that I am most interested in are the Larue Tactical Stealth upper, and the Mk 12 clones with White Oak barrels.

Holding everything else aside, which is the ultimately higher quality (reliability included) and more accurate?

Thanks!

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

I would go for the Larue. I believe Larue uses LW50 steel for their barrels. I do like of WOA for thier iron sights though.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Both will shoot very well, pick the one that has the features you like best. While larue has a less than stellar online presence, customer service is top notch. If you aren't happy with the stealth, larue will make it right.

Personally, I prefer Noveske over both.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Noveske's accuracy is ultimately as good? I had read one review that said the Recon was very accurate, but geared more towards ultimate reliability, where the Stealth was a bit more accurate.

Yeah, right! Then let her pick it.

yea, I bought my wife a Mini-Sass to shoot...I think she has shot it once so far but I have shot it quite a bit - nice shooter. May be I should buy her a nice tactical bolt gun to shoot too

</div></div>I almost bought one of these actually. In fact, it was a a thread I started about the mini-SASS that prompted someone to PM me "hey- how about this Larue upper, it's better..."

And now I'm on that track.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Bought the Larue Tactical upper.

I'm going to buy a Larue billet lower and build off that.

While I have you guy's attention- I'm really new to the "build your own AR" thing. I have complete confidence, but which parts kit should I buy?

I was thinking RRA or DPMS, then substituting in a Giselle 2-stage trigger.

Either kit works well and definitely get the Geissele SSA Trigger - there are others that I feel are good too - Rock Rivers two stage is nice. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

JSTARZ- I have found Rock River's parts kit available with a NM 2-stage. Is the Giselle enough better to justify the difference in price?

Thanks,

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

After a little bit of research on LPK's I thought it sounded like G&R Tactical put a lot of research into making sure they got the best parts from the various manufacturers. Not to mention you can somewhat customize what's included (pistol grip, trigger, etc.). Might give them a look.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Thanks Jon, I looked and it seems like a reasonable kit for sure.

This ought to be a fun little project.

Thanks,

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Both great companies. One focuses on the tactical shooter and the other focuses on the match shooter (match shooters that win). Both will shoot sub-MOA. My preference is for WOA.

White Oak cuts an excellent barrel. I ordered a 1/7 twist 16" .223 with matching bolt for a carbine build. It was capable of hitting prairie dogs at 650 yards using BlackHills 75gr match 'seconds' in the white box. This was matching the hit ratio of my LesBaer Supervarmint .223.

Re: Larue Stealth vs White Oak SPR upper...

Hey guys-

The Larue upper is bought and paid for. I have to figure out some lower options, but I plan on building off a Larue Stealth billet lower.

Thanks,
