Lead Boolits in M1a (m14)

In Gun Test Magazine Jan 2011 page 3

Its said using lead in these rifle can lead to CATASTRPHIC FAILURE in a MIA (M14) because bits of bullet material can be shaved off and the particle of lead lodge in the chamber causing the bolt to close improperly

" Pulling the trigger with the bolt out of battery results in CATASTRPHIC FAILURE "

This is from the m14 owners Guide by Scott Duff & Mohn Miller.

Now if this is correct a M1 Garand M1 Carbine, mini 14 or 30 wouldn't be safe and maybe a SKS.

A guy was looking for a hunting round and a Nosler Ballistic tip was the only option

B/S, the M14 as well as it's clone has a piece of metal in the receiver (aka safety bridge) an weapon design, will not allow an out of battery, hammer on firing pin discharge. A stuck or broken firing pin is another story.
Take the M14 out of the stock, reinstall the trigger group an see/watch what happens or how it works. Block the auto sear an disconnect an allow the hammer to follow the bolt. Self explanatory.
An no the M14's floating firing pin will not fire, even a pistol primer, if it's seated properly. A primer proud of the pocket here again, is a different story.
Much B/S about the weapons design is so called net truth.
I've shot 1000's of cast bullet rounds in my H&R M14e2 on full an semi, only issue is leading of the gas system. If the cast hardness is above 23-24 with a gas check, it's a moot point anyway.
