wherever I may roam...
I was shooting my Savage fv this weekend, and had 2 fte's. Both were Federal bulk 40gr solids. When I pryed the cases from the chamber with them came a small lead ring. What could cause this? I usually only run a patch with Breakfree followed by a few dry, through the bore, and wipe down the rest of the rifle. After this, I also brushed the chamber. I usually only shoot Wolf MT or these Federal Lightnings. Thanks for any info.

Re: Lead rings

only 2 things i can take a guess at is that it's a carbon ring mixed with lead particles that snuck around the casings in a less than tight chamber. maybe the prying out grabbed the rings of the chamber walls.

or the heads themselves where slightly bigger (squashed / fatter if you will) than the chamber. the outer part of the bullet may have gotten shaved off a bit when chambering and lodged themselves around the casing, causing the FTEs.

but that's just a wild ass guess.

Re: Lead rings

Was unusual. Both times they were perfect wire fine lead rings. One did come out attatched to the case lip, the other was right at the chamber edge when I pulled the cade. Am hoping the cleaning of the chamber with the brass brush cures this.
Thanks,
Eric
