LEAD SLED - Anyone know of one that works well for AR-platform as well as others?

I know that many are going to say "use bags" , and I do when shooting. I want a sled for zeroing purposes and so my group of shooters can all use it to zero Their Own rifles.

I've used several and I liked this HS sled a lot, but the knobs on it where it is supposed to secure the stock were really in the way.

I've looked around a good bit and have yet to find one that looked "great" .

    Let the sled hating commence....

I use this with my 6BR but I can get my AR to work with it using a front bag rider. It's a combo of a Targetshooting.com one piece rest and a Shadetree joystick front rest

That looks cool. So what's the front rest consist of? I can see everything else pretty well. I guess it's just flat and so you put a bag on it as well? That stock clamp device looks like it would work well but not sure if it would work on my GL stocks?

I would likely also use the sled for working on the gun or scope mounting types of things too so I'd like a way to strap the gun in in some fashion but I could always throw something around the whole device if need be

For all of my guns I use Caldwell Lead Sled DFT. Version 2 looks for friendly to AR's as they made the distance between the rails wider (rail shape is different where the mag would fit between)
Edit: Some of the parts are not machined with super tight tolerances so I put pipe tape on threads to tighten tolerances. For the most part I am happy.

I've looked at that one online a good bit. It looked like it would work pretty well.

I second the Caldwell 2. Much more versatile than the original.

The reason people say use bags and bipod is for a reason. If you want one get one but very few people that shoot and practice will chime in. When you zero with that setup and then shoot it it is HIGHLY likely the zero won't match. It changes how the rifle does or doesn't recoil.

Best advice is to zero how you shoot.
For cleaning or working on guns a cleaning caddy is better... hold liquids and helps hold small parts, weighs less etc.

    Just my thoughts

Yeah I don't disagree really, I am looking for one to use for a group of us and not everyone in that group uses bags and all that stuff, but yeah I hear ya
