ok, every since I got my suppressor I have been in sneaky quiet mode, I mean if you have a suppressor, why shoot anything unsuppressed right????? WRONG. About two weeks ago I traded for an sks, now anyone who knows me very well knows that one of these cheap pos rifles is a little odd for me to be playing with but I thought what the hell, a suppressed sks might be fun, so I un pinned the gernade launcher, chucked it up in the lathe, turned it down, threaded it 5/8x24, screwed it back on the sks, pinned it, and decided I was gonna have some fun. WRONG. An sks is a gas piston operated recoil design with no locking lugs, and when I pulled the trigger it was very obvious why I had never seen anyone suppress an sks, instantly the action blew hot gasses, powder residue, and concussion right back in my face and eyes, its kinda funny now, but wasn't at the time, Im sure no one else here has ever done anything like this but in the unlikely event that you have, id sure like to hear about it, Joe

the SKS has a locking shoulder not lugs, it is under the bolt, anyway, shoot it with the grenade sights up, that will cutoff the gas flow at the gas port. You will need to cut the grenade sights down and manually cycle the action though.
hope this helps.

lmao, well that's one way, this sks had the two way gas port so I could have shut it off, but then again there's no sense in suppressing a semi auto if its gonna be a single shot.....is there?

Modify the gas system maybe? I don't know much about these but I'm not a big believer in "it can't be done". Those who usually say that generally turn out to be ether ignorant or lazy most of the time from my observations.

you can leave the grenade sight down and flip the gas port to single, no reason to lift it up and cut things.

as for suppressing the SKS, ive only known of one guy that did it and if I remember correctly he took a bsquare mount, closed off the back and used it to trap the debris and gas.

mr blasty, with the simple gas system the SKS has, there isnt really much to modify that would stop this from happening, opening up the gas port maybe, but you wont do enough to stop gas flow from blowing in your face. to much of the gas is staying in the barrel and being pushed through the gas port. Opening up the barrel would defeat the suppressor.

to add, subsonic is out of the question cause you wont get reliable action out of the bolt, not enough gas to push the bolt back

The first time shooting my SKS after cosmoline removal, I got a face full of cosmoline and rem oil. Thankfully that was before the days of my use of motor oil in my firearms or else i would have smelled of a engine all day
