Rifle Scopes Leatherwood Scopes?

Re: Leatherwood Scopes?

Leatherwood has been around for a long time. They are owned by Hi-Lux. The Leatherwood ART-II was used on the M21 during the Vietnam war.
Quality is that of a good scope. This was relayed by me to someone in the 'scope industry' when I asked about three different scout scopes. Leatherwood, Burris, and Leupold. Leupy was tops, Leatherwood second, and Burris third. Now remember this is only one individual's opinion who deals with such things and open to debate with others who are in the industry of building and selling scopes and optics, or those who have direct experience with all three scopes in question(my questions)

A Leatherwood ART-II was going to go on my FAM14 when I converted it to an M21, but I am rethinking the entire project these days

Re: Leatherwood Scopes?

We had ART II's as issue scopes for out Police SWAT sniper rifles for over 30 years. They are still working...which says alot about their durability in a third world environment.

I scrounged one and used it for a while on an enfield Envoy. Good piece of kit and worked as advertised with the right ammo.

Of cource now I have a Nightforce on my long range rifle

and Leupold VXIII's on most of my hunting stuff

Re: Leatherwood Scopes?

I ran one a few years ago. I was happy with it. They are good at what they are...but they are not current tech (or maybe they are sooo ahead of their time that the tactical world is just not ready for them yet).
