I’m a lefty and I’m trying to put together a good 22LR bolt rifle that I can shoot suppressed. It would see a lot of duty as a “backyard” trainer. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of good options out there. I’m good with spending the money on an Anschutz, but all I can really find is the 1416 and it isn’t threaded. I like the Anschutz because I could drop the 5098 2 stage trigger in it, but it sounds like pressing the barrel out of the receiver and then reseating it is tricky. Also I’d want the barrel 16.5-18” but I’ve heard some guys recommend not to cut the muzzle off as they have a special taper/restriction at muzzle…going blank on what this is called right now.

CZ’s get a lot of praise and have enough aftermarket support, but LH options are again not that good. Sounds like barrels are glued in and would take a smith to make a relief cut to get it out so now I’m buying a new barrel just to get length and threads. Unfortunately CZ has no plans to do a LH 455. MPA might do a LH chassis in the future.

Savage Mark II BTVLSS. Quality probably isn’t in the same class, but simple enough to work on.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

Call the Anschutz custom shop. They built me a beautiful LH version of the Anschutz 64MPR.

    I got the following:

Slightly shorter heavy barrel barrel with a match chamber that was hand fitted to the 64 action.
A top end 2 stage trigger that is set to closely match my AI AT trigger
    Barrel free floated
Action glass bedded to the stock with custom hex screws
    Extended mag release
    Tuned ejector to clear scope
Larger bolt knob (Same diameter as my AI AT)
    Test targets before and after

They can build pretty much whatever you want and the price is reasonable. I paid $1,800 with two 5 round and 1 10 round magazine.

If you buy a rifle from them, you also get 20% off of all RWS ammo that you buy directly from them as well.

This is Anschutz North America you're speaking of, correct? I have been in touch with them as they has a left hand custom currently for sale but the muzzle isn't threaded and it doesn't sound like they are willing to pull barrel to thread it for me. They did say they would probably do a few LH rifles with threaded barrels next year.....

Yes. An already built rifle is not something they would alter. Call and tell them what you want in terms of action, barrel, etc. I would be surprised if they won't build you what you want from scratch as they did exactly what I wanted.

Did you talk to Steve Boelter? He is the guy in charge

The Anschutz custom shop website says they aren't accepting orders for the rest of the year....

I looked for a while and settled on a CZ452... anxiously awaiting someone to make a decent chassis for it...

Yeah, I overlooked that. Steve just informed me via email that they weren't accepting any more builds for the year. MPA did say they would try to make a LH chassis in the future but no real time line. I'll do the math on a cz and getting barrel done or new barrel and go from there. The other option is get a RH Anschutz to fill the time.

I'm glad I went with the CZ. I don't know what I'm missing with an Annie, but the 452 feeds 100%, the bolt to action fit is amazing, the factory barrel shoots plenty good for positional practice at 50 yards, and a $20 YoDave Trigger can make it as good as an 8oz Timney. The rifle feels nothing like my match rifle, but that's what a 223 practice rifle is for.

Get a CZ and get on the wait list for an Annie built the way you want...

Patience is everything as I'm sure you know

I was going to get an Annie, but wound up with a CZ452, that was ready to roll, mine works great. My barrel was not loctited, it was pretty snug. a competent smith will have the barrel swapped with no challenges.
