It fell out of the gun safe and took a nasty hit while still in its factory padded case. Now it doesn't register distances or when it does it is way off. Any hope for this out of date range finder or do I need to just update to a newer model.

Call Leica and find out,but I think an use upgrade would be good. I've seen a few 1600b go for $300 hear on the hide just have to check it out. I'll try to look for them

Trying to remember how long ago I bought it. Would probably cost more to fix than to just buy a newer model. Saw some reviews of leica usa not being as effective with repairs as sending it over seas.

Waiting to hear back from leica. Most likely answer will be they will give me credit towards a newer model. Don't really need the ballostic software in a range finder as I use strelok. Will keep you in mind pending what they have to say.

My guess is the sending / receiving has become misaligned due to the fall (very common), and that is why your not getting readings except for very close ranges?

The cost to repair that is likely going to exceed the cost of a new one. I am pretty sure they won't be able to do that here in the US, and will have to send it to Germany for the repair.

Called leica as I had not heard anything from them for a while. Looks like I am getting an upgrade to the 2400R for $250. The 2700 would have been $500+. Didn't need that much of an upgrade as I only really use it for setting up target distances and not much long range hunting.

Just got the 2400R. Quite an upgrade over the 900. Much lighter and smaller. It was dark when I got home from work so no outside play, just messing with it in the house. Going to make a nice thick neoprene cover for this one to protect it from falls. They make a factory one but they also want $60-70 for it.
