My Googlefu is not good today as well as most days.
There was a head-on collision between a CSP Trooper and a County Dpt, out of his county responding to a road rage thing .Both driving down the middle of a gravel county road and neither one moved over at the crest of the hill.
SMACK!!! Their participation at stopping or helping out on the situation was over as they had tangled Assholes. End of their missions, and helped NO ONE.
If they were responding to the same incident how come they were both going in opposite directions?
I hope someone can figure this one out as it seems to be quite quiet in my area.
Imagine, an incident involving nothing but LEO, so who do you blame this one on? FM

Because they were coming from opposite directions and the call was on a side road at the crest of the hill?

Did it happen at 0130 or 0230?

Perhaps the CSP Explorer Aegis system was in sleep mode and the Sherriffs Dept Tahoe was on auto pilot.

Seems like lots of things that shouldn't be crashing into each other are crashing into each other.

Didn't the ChiComs just launch a new, super spy satellite ? I think there may be something to what FM and pmc are saying.......seems like there's been a rash of computer based nav aids all going to shizzle lately........(I'm hearing Jimmy Dean; "Baja! I don't have anything in Baja!.........)

Free donuts at two different places at opposite ends of the County crossing State highways? or both out of control?
Glad no innocent people were hurt.
Both on medical retirements now?
Why shut it up? Because the truth will prove both to be fools?

Right near where I live there is a big hill.

At its crest it flattens out for approx. 25 feet than due to an underlying layer of ledge there is another crest of perhaps 10 feet or so of elevation......just high enough to conceal any car coming from either side.

So cars tend to come up the first hill at a head of steam and in winter tend to ride the middle of the road crown.

At the small flat area there is a cross road. Vehicles entering into the intersection cant see if anything is coming over the smaller 10 foot crest.

The small crest is no small obstacle in inclement weather as you are either turning 90 degrees to access it or coming up the steep hill.

Its a residential area and in 40 odd years living here I have never seen or heard of an accident here. There have been near misses and kids on bikes would seem to be especially vulnerable but fortune has favored us.

Still though luck is fickle.

"We have conducted our internal investigation and determined that no Law Enforcement Officers were at fault, as usual, It must be the Yeti." or fill in the blank.
If you Fuck up, own up to it.

Just curious, FM, but did Joe Friday shit in your Wheaties, or was it Bill Gannon?

No one said that.

Unless you know all the facts you don't have enough information to determine who is at fault.

but I don't think you will be happy until you hear "Its the cops fault".

there you feel better now?

Meh, I see reports of at least 6 accidents a day. And rarely if ever do they do a follow up with the results of the investigation, which normally takes a few days. Do you feel you deserve more info because it was LEO involved?

It was all over the news when it happened and like most head on collisions was a hell of a mess. What I question is how 2 officers going to the same call end up going opposite directions on the same road and neither of them knew not to drive down the center of a rural gravel road when going over a hill.
The SO Dep. was not in his county but the one next to it, Adams and Arapaho, but I understand that to a degree as they probably help each other.
If they are not familiar with the roads then maybe they should use caution instead of running balls out.
Maybe more will come out in a few days but I doubt it and yes when 2 LEOs crash I do expect a little follow up as they are the ones out there setting an example and writing tickets so they should know the rules of the road.

Not really trying to stir up shit. This was a big thing on the local news with helicopter footage etc. and helo lift for the CSP Trooper. Cut the top of the car off for extraction type thing I hope both are doing OK.
In rural eastern Colorado a thing like this is big time, not so much for the Front range as they have wrecks like that every once in a while.
This boils down to who fucked up and how? Was it one or both? and how could such a thing happen with Pro trained drivers that meet at the top of a small hill and hit head on? A violation of the basic rules of the road that we are taught out here and teach to our kids.
As I posted earlier, I am seeking info on the incident, not trying to throw rocks but it seems a few rocks should be in the air.
I have trucked a lot of grain and water right where this happened with no problems, just hold the right side of the road and it usually goes well. I have never had a problem there.
Do I have a hardon for the Cops? NO. I haven't had a ticket in many years. I rarely interact with them other than socially.
Did one or the other or both fuck up big time? I think the answer is obvious. So what happened? That is what I would like to know. Why is this info not out there? If it were the general populous it would be all over the news networks but this is strangely silent. Someone MAN up and tell the story..
Time will tell or will it? FM

These two comments make me think you're trying to stir shit. You clearly seem to be implying there will be a cover up of what happened.

Foul Mike stir shit? Say it ain't so. Don't take your internet experience to seriously. You'll enjoy it so much more. And for the love of god, don't try to fix anything or anyone. It never works. It's by design. ;)

Accident recon in a fatal takes about 6 months. This invest will be similar.

Your assumption on training completely disagrees with your willingness to pay taxes and the willingness of politicians to use that money to train cops rather than buy votes.

Someone may have made a mistake and it will take time to figure it out. Have you considered a tire blow out, medical issue. I'd say it's unlikely but wont you be crestfallen if it's discovered one of the operators had a heart attack prior to the crash.

When it gets figured out its unlikely you will see big headlines saying "Officer X fucked up" same as 90 percent or more of the accidents that happen don't announce who fucked up with a headline.

There will be a change in training, there will be counseling, let's hope there is not a funeral.

Understand your typical cop is the typical kid next door, he gets a call, he gets excited, he wants to be the first one on scene, perhaps to help you. They don't get dick for training. Are lucky if they qualify once a year with issue gear and get no driver training after academy. The best you can hope for is that the candidate was mature and responsible before they started the career and built on that once they started working. The candidates received 90 percent of their training prior to academy from their parents. The agency just tries to add a little to that base. Hopefully the parents did their job.

Your passion in this matter is exemplary. I suggest you become a cop.

With the way modern Police cars are now, today...I wonder if both of them were on the console getting the latest data. Both flying low and not looking where they were going but still trying to update their data. Neither fulfilled his mission but became liabilities. Lots to learn here.
Don't text and drive no matter how good you are at it.

The fact that they were going opposite directions to the same call doesn't mean anything to me. I work for one of the biggest agencies in California, and we don't have a radio inter-operability with any other agency. It is possible to patch the radios together, but it isn't done on routine calls Usually the initiating agency and all of their officers are deputies are hearing everything real time. If we're responding to help, that information has to go through their dispatch, to our dispatch, then to us, which means our info is delayed. An example would be responding to an incident assisting another allied agency, while they're fanning out to set up a perimeter, all we know is to respond to the scene, or make a judgment call on an alternate location. In a rural area, it can't be a bit of a shit show because locations are difficult.

We all know that if we don't make it to the call we are ineffective, that's day one academy stuff. Enforcement driving is the definition of divided attention. Like pmclaine said, we're just regular people. Pretty rare to find a cop that's good at everything . Some shoot great, some are great writers, some are amazing investigators, and some can drive like Sebastian Loeb.
